I just had my very first blood test done to check to see if I am possibly pregnant. The nurse on the phone already placed an order to my pharmacy for prenatal vitamins because she said she's certain i'm newly pregnant. The nurse who did the bloodwork said "oh your pregnant, I know! I do this all the time and sweetheart, I'm telling you yes!"
I barely had a positive urine test (not even sure it WAS positive - it was a VERY faint 2nd line after looking at it a 2nd time). No second line appeared when I took a 2nd urine test the next day (i told the nurse all of this over the phone) I'm afraid that Monday they will tell me "no your not pregnant. sorry." and i'm going to be devastated. Should they be doing that?

I kept saying to the nurse on the phone (when she would "congratulate" me) thanks, I guess we'll find out monday! She said "oh you must still be in the denial phase"

More often than not, the blood tests are extremely accurate because they are able to measure the hormone levels in your body better than the urine tests. The faint line on the first test you took means pregnant. Any line at all, regardless of how faint, means a positive.

As for the second test, it could just be that your hormone levels are too low for the test to pick up but still quite possibly pregnant. I don't think that it's right for the nursing staff to do that without an absolute definite but more than likely I would say you are.

Good luck with everything and I will keep my hopes up for you!!

CONGRATS on the possible new addition :)

well.. I think the nurse should'nt tell you anything until she is 100% positive... and about the home preg test.. I took 2 of them also and the line was so light pink that I though I wasn't... I mean it was so light it looked like it wasn't a line at all.. both of them.. so I went to my doctor and had a test ran and sure enough I was.. I did research online from the home preg test I bought, and I read up on their product and it said even if the 2nd line is very faint then it's a positive.... But it could be that your are only a few weeks and it's not showing up dark right now... but good luck.. and well wishes.

It's never a good idea to play with someone emotions. Although they feel they are trying to make you happy, telling you what you want to hear, it could also lead to much distress later. Usually they say if there is even a faint line on a pregnancy test it is positive but since you took a second test the next day that came out negative I would have to wonder. Try a third test using your first morning urine and go with those results. Good luck and keep us posted.

If you've already seen a BFP (big fat positive) no matter how faint chances are very good that you are. Incorrect negatives are pretty much common...incorrect positives are very rare. As for the blood technician, she would have no way of knowing for sure...being as she didn't do a urinary pregnancy test, all she would have is a vial of blood...and well...blood is blood...still red pregnant or not!! LOL

If on Monday you're told "No you're not pregnant, sorry." take it, allow yourself a little time to be sad, but pick yourself up and keep trying.

It is rare to get a false positive. I just had my third child and I thought the same as you, that the line was very faint. I took four tests and they all showed up that way. Faint line or dark line. A line is a line and she is a professional. I don't think she would be telling you that if she wasn't at least 99% sure.

Well my doctor told me that home pregnancy tests are VERY accurate, there is really no need for a blood test. So I would say if you took the test the first time and it came back positive (there is NO almost positive result-it is or it isn't) you may just be very early in your pregnancy and therefore the hormone is not that strong yet! I would say you are and don't stress yourself out about it :- ) Good Luck!

NO! Doctor's are not supposed to tell you things like that. I was in a CNA class. ( Nursing ) It said you can not tell patients your opinons for a possible let down. You just hope for the best and say you don't know the outcome, of whatever is going on. That is wrong she said that to you. I am so sorry. You COULD have a false positive. BUT very unlikely. I hope you are pregnant and I hope the best. Good luck.

I wish they would not do that. It is disappointing to hear things like that and then find out it's not true. Especially if you have been trying for a while and you just keep hoping each month the test will say yes.

You might mention that to them whatever the answer is that it's hard to hear things like that without that test saying for sure that you are pregnant.

I will cross my fingers for you!!
