I had a small glass of wine for new years eve and didnt think it would be too harmful but I havent had any since then because I worry. Everything I read says not to drink at all while pregnant because they are not positive on what amount of alcohol causes birth defects. I found this article. Hope this helps.
I’m 3 months pregnant and don’t drink very often but do like to have a social drink every once in a while. Is it OK to occasionally drink alcohol during pregnancy?
No. Although it may seem harmless to have a glass of wine at dinner or a mug of beer out with friends, no one has determined what's a "safe amount" of alcohol to drink during pregnancy. Alcohol is one of the most common known causes of mental and physical birth defects — it produces more severe abnormalities in a developing fetus than heroin, cocaine, or marijuana.
Alcohol is easily passed along to the baby, who is less equipped to eliminate it than the mother. If you had a drink or two before you even knew you were pregnant (as many women do), don't worry too much about it. But your best bet is to not drink any more alcohol at all for the rest of your pregnancy.

I dont think that one drink would do any harm, however it is best if you do not drink alcohol at all simply because the risk of drinking when pregnant are not fully known.
I did have the ocasional glass of wine when i was pregnant with my first 2 children but then with my other two i did not drink at all, even if i had wanted to i couldnt have because i hated the smell of it!
It did my children no harm and i wouldnt stress yourself out over one glass of wine, the stress will do you more harm than such a small amount of alcohol!
I wish you all the best in your pregnancy!

At present the Department Of Healths advice is that the occasional unit of alcohol should not be a problem. However, expect that advice to change soon as they are looking at well researched evidence from the states that suggests that even small amounts of alcohol in pregnancy can affect your childs mental development later in life. You will always find people who will tell you that they drank/smoke or even took drugs and their baby is alright. It is difficult to determine how their child would have turned out if they had not done these things, the fact is the risks are higher if you drink alcohol. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Obviously, don't go out on the lash!, but if you fancy a glass of wine I really think that is your personal prerogative. When I was pregnant I would occasionally have a couple of white wine spritzers at dinner. I know you are advised to abstain but it's not illegal and you know your own body. Both my babies were above 8lb and completely healthy. It is hard tho' because you do get the odd 'look' or comment but really it's your business.

You know i really think it's ok to have red wine (maybe just a few glasses a week, but no more than one a day) . Thats my view on it. My sister drank it with her last pregnancy and he baby came out perfect and almost 10 pounds! I heard it was good to help develope the babys heart and good for your heart also. Maybe you could ask your doctor.

One small glass of wine with you dinner is fine. Every night i do not think so though. But socially why not. Just one thought. Just a small one. My cousin drank beer duing her pregnancy once or twice a month. Her baby came out fine, a very big baby. Good luck.

I am 22 wks gone with my second baby- !st time round I didn't know I was pregnant till I was 10 weeks gone and I had been drinking loads but my daughter is fine ( depite being practically pickled!). This time round I've been more careful but have a glass of wine 1 or 2 times a week, all my friends have done the same and our kids are fine. My mum drank stout when she was pregnant with me as they said it was good for pregnant women then! Good luck with your pregnancy and don't feel to bad -you've still got to enjoy yourself aswell.

My wife does not drink, but her doctor actually recommended a glass of wine periodically during her pregnancy to relax. Small quantities of wine should not pose any danger to the baby.

I would suggests that you have a swallow of wine as opposed to the glass. You can't be too careful. However don't worry about this one glass you had and you can dismiss it. Don't take this, however to be a green light to take a glass of wine any time you feel like it... that won't do.

You should do a Google search on alcohol consumption during pregnancy. While it is unknown exactly how much is detrimental to the development of the baby it is known that alcohol IS detrimental to the development of the baby. Therefore no alcohol should be consumed. Remain paranoid and don't drink anymore...have a beautiful healthy baby knowing that you did everything you could to make that happen.
