I'd say clearly DISH cause:

- cheaper
- better packages
- more variety on channels
- good picture quality

You might check out http://www.dishnetworkbargains.net - They currently run some free promo or something. They are very professional and can recommend them.

Best wishes
Mike

This is a tough call- one that I made about 7 months ago. I ended up choosing directv because they had more HD channels and they had more of the normal "basic plus" type channels that I wanted. Also their HD-DVR they had seemed better (HR-20- it rocks!). Just a few months later, though, and they're more similar, except I heard that DISH dropped court tv....

Directv does have more subscribers, so it may be able to better afford future upgrades and such, but that is really just speculation....

It depends on what you want. Neither dish nor Directv have a lag behind cable unless the broadcast is hd. Directv has the best sports packages (nfl sunday ticket, mlb extra innings etc) Dish Network is typically not as good as Directv overall. If you want cable look into Comcast for the On-Demand. Typically they bury the wires in the walls even from outside but it will depend on the condo. Also the 5 lnb satellites are amazing. Go with Directv

Actually on Febuary 1st http://www.Dishstore.net will be offering the HD DVR Free to all new customers without having the pay the current $199 upgrade fee.

With Directv I belive you will need to spend a couple hundred dollars for the HD DVR!

DirecTV is better. More specifically the DirecTV HR-250 receiver is the best HD-DVR. It is a HD-DVR with integrated Tivo. You only need one cable box & you don't have to pay the Tivo monthly service. All you pay is the DirecTV service + $5 for the DVR service + $10 for HD channels

I had DirectTV before I moved, and I have Dish network now. They are both about the same, but the advantage I do have it to have the Dish charges combined for a discount with my phone and DSL bills. I wish say that the customer service were a little more helpful in my opinion than DirectTV. The Dish people seem to go all out for me when the DirectTV were not all that accomodating when I needed help. So far, I have not had as many problems with DishNetwork as I did with Direct TV. But that just maybe me. So I am happy with DishNetwork. Good luck with your decision!
