Castor oil...doesn't always work & it can cause dehydration... I would say let nature run its course...Average first pregnancies are 41 weeks 1 day, and pregnancies with prior births average 40 weeks 3 days. "Term" is 40 weeks!
Your baby needs everyday it can inside you. Try walking, or nipple stimulation, hot showers or spicy foods, before resorting to a dangerous (some times sucessful) attempt at induction. You can increase your risk of needing a c-section by trying to get the baby out before s/he is ready. Have you began dialating or effacing? You should really know how close you really are or a t least an estimate before trying something like that.
Also you can call your doctor/midwife or advice nurse & get info on natural ways of induction!

As with any natural remedy to induce labor, castor oil will not work unless she is ready for labor.
However, I feel that natural options for post-term induction are preferable to medical interventions.
Here is a page devoted to using castor oil to induce labor:
http://www.givingbirthnaturally.com/castor-oil-to-induce-labor.html
Castor oil causes intentional contractions which then can stimulated uterine contractions.
It will also cause diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration, and in many women can cause vomiting as well.
If you try this, do it in the morning so that she is well-rested. She will be running to the bathroom if it kicks in.
Also, mix 2 tbs in root beer or orange juice. You might even wipe your mouth out afterwards. It's pretty thick and oily.

If you employ castor oil DO NOT drink it. First off it tastes nasty, secondly it explanations diarrhea and you don't wish that whilst you're in exertions. If you're going to make use of it rub it to your stomach and canopy the discipline w/ saran wrap and position a heating pad or wet wash garments over it. It nonetheless is helping to urge exertions w/ out the dangerous aspect results. I will alert you it's messy even though! Also, rubbing your nipples for multiplied intervals of time, intercourse and going for walks aid to urge contractions additionally.

i did this with my first child...i had the worst "cleaning " of my body ever. was very uncomfortable and hungry. while my water did break bout 8 hrs after taking. when we went to hospital i was very dehydrated and my daughter didn't like labor much.
walk, have sex, snuggle, smooch, keep moving and enjoying the last moments before baby. things will be busy for a bit after having a baby and physically she should conserve her energy for the labor and delivery process, not the elimination process that comes with castor oil.

Be extremely careful with this method of inducing labour. Do not do it at all if you don't have adequate supervision by a doctor or midwife. Using castor oil to induce labour can cause the baby to expel meconium.
