I try inserting my key to check the mail at the post box, but it won't go in all the way through the lock. Any help?

Whoever rented you the box should be able to fix it.

Your key is probably a copy of a copy. As they re-copy keys, the ridges and depressions get skewed one way or the other. Hardware stores are notorious for crap copies like this. You can try filing down the part near the handle so the key will go in further, or the tip if it sticks there. But if the tip gets caugt, it's more likely that there's something jammed in the lock.

In the long run, it's better to get a new key and lockset. Once you've got an original key, make one copy, and use the copy for getting the mail. Use the original to make new copies if your old one breaks or is lost. Always get copies from a good locksmith.

The postmaster should have the master key. Contact the post office and explain your situation to see if someone can come out and open the box. Then contact your landlord (if you are using a multiple box unit) and make them replace the lock.

You know I lost my key once.. so I took a screw driver and carefully pried it open... then from the inside I removed the lock, took it to Home Depot, found the same lock and I replaced it.....it was actually very easy!!..
