Too old? 46 is old? Only to someone under 14, I think. 46 is a wonderful age to discover life and adventure, if one can afford it. My niece and her s/o sold their homes, have been travelling for 3 years now, and have seen most of the world. They use websites which connect them to those who will share a room for a night or two, they visit relatives, and live as cheaply as possible. They have recently settled for a while in San Diego, Ca, with dreams of going somewhere again, as soon as they can afford it. They banked most of the sale of their homes, so they have something to fall back on for retirement. Great way to live, if one is the adventuresome type and not willing to set limits on what is fun to do within ones means. Oh, to be young again to do such a thing. My bravest flight of fancy was to marry a European at my age of 59 and live there for ten years. Now we both are back in USA. I wouldn't have chosen any other path, although my friends thought I was crazy to give up a professional career, my home, and others things dear to my heart for such a cultural/life change. It was not a caper, but a change of address. Good luck to your uncle. He will have many tales to tell you, as you get older.

Good on him!
Any age is a good one to follow your dreams and it is never too late to travel.
You should support him in what he is doing. It will be a wonderful experience for him.
Instead of discouraging him maybe you should take a leaf out of his book!
And by the way, I don't know how old you are, but 46 is not at all old!!

At 96--yes--but 46--just a very good age. Old enough to know what he is doing but young enough to enjoy it. I think it is awesome.

Hey dundeedee..............at 46, life is just starting. Leave your uncle to travel and have loads of fun. Let him spend all his money and come back broke and start again. Life is short..........enjoy the cruise.

Fair play to him. Nobody is too old to travel. He's done what most of us want to do: quit our job and do something we love. He obviously can afford to do so.

My mother in law is 74 but it didn't stop her touring the US with me and her daughter last year. Good on your uncle, I hope he has a great time.

No, he is right to take the opportunity, he might never get another chance. You only live once, do things when you can, I have put things off only to regret it now I am in my 50's.
