I'm looking to take a walk in nature but without having to take the train or the bus for hours. Anything accessible by city bus near London that you know of?

Thanks in advance.

Hampstead Heath, which joins onto Parliament Hill Fields and which provideds an excellent country walk can be reached on the 24 bus.

Bushey Park can be reached by bus from Richmond. Again, a good walk with deer to be spotted. http://www.gardenvisit.com/m/mid4.htm

You can enjoy walking down a country lane by taking the bus or tube to Totteridge and walking to Mill Hill. It is surprisingly rural and you can go down country lanes and walk on the common.

London Transport used to produce a book of walks which could be taken by using public transport. In case that is now not available, try this link: http://www.ramblers.org.uk/INFO/regional/londonruralbooks.html
