my road test is in an hour. i was just practicing parallel parking in a parking lot with cones, and i kept getting worse as time went by. i was pretty good the other day, but today i definitely was NOT within 6" of the curb.

on my road test:
-will they be really strict about 6"? i was between 6" and about 12"
-do they fail you if you hit the curb?

i live in NJ.

I guess not atleast in Calif. Instructor will be checking the way you apply your driving skills but not exact distance.

Your instructor should have made sure you were confident with parallel parking before booking your test. In the UK, you will not always be asked to parallel park. You may be asked to revers around a corner or do an emergency stop instead. Spend a good proportion of that lesson practicing. There are plenty of tips online but you need to find what works for you. I live in a busy street and have to parallel park bumper to bumper bascially. So i got used to it pretty quick. It's hard havingto use clutch control, check mirrors and turn the wheel all at the same time. You will grasp it if you just keep repeating your practice.

okay.............Parallel parking........
you usually have to park within the legal distance of the curb (about 18 inches).
Also they usually allow more than one attempt, as long as you don't drive over the curb (that breaks the law).
Take your time, cover the brake and look to the rear most of the time
Good luck

here's how to do it perfect every time pull up so your rear bumper is level with the rear bumper of the car you want to park behind crank wheels all the way to the right and back up until your body is even with back bumper and straighten wheels back up until front bumper is even with back bumper of car in front then crank wheels all the way left and finish backing in..........perfect every time
