Various nutritional supplements can help to ease distractibility, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior. They won't work for everybody and are not intended as a cure, but they are safe and may be helpful. Effects are not immediate but are usually felt within about two months. They can all be taken together as well as with conventional stimulant drugs.
The following nutritional supplements can be helpful in managing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
1.The mineral magnesium may help to lessen symptoms of ADHD. One study from Poland, where stimulant drugs are rarely used, reported that many children with ADHD were deficient in magnesium, and that providing the mineral along with other treatments eased hyperactivity and other symptoms. Magnesium is often included in multivitamin formulas.
2.Taking a vitamin B complex, which contains a mix of B vitamins along with extra B3 and B6, helps to promote nervous system health. In one small study, extra B6 was more effective than Ritalin at relieving symptoms of ADHD in children. B3, also called niacin, may also help to relieve depression, anxiety, and insomnia.
3.Damage from free radicals, oxygen compounds produced during ordinary metabolism, can harm brain, nervous system, and other body tissues. The antioxidant vitamin C, taken with flavonoids, is important for preserving cell health throughout the body.
4.Evening primrose oil and borage oil are both rich in GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), a "good" type of fat that promotes nervous system health. Some studies suggest that GLA can be particularly beneficial in those who are deficient in the mineral zinc.
5.The nutritional supplement DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) helps to foster production of brain chemicals essential for healthy mental processing. Taking DMAE may therefore help to improve focus and concentration. Some researchers suggest that DMAE improves short-term, or working, memory, deficits of which have been noted in people with ADHD.
Self-Care Remedies
Nutritionally oriented physicians who treat ADHD typically wait to prescribe Ritalin and comparable stimulants until dietary and lifestyle changes have proven ineffective.
Dietary changes. So many foods and substances have been shown to enhance hyperactivity that it's truly worth the effort of at least giving the following dietary elimination program at least a six to eight week trial. If you notice improvement by eliminating certain foods, you can gradually reintroduce certain foods to determine which are the real culprits.
Look for chemicals. Remove as many additives, artificial colorings, and other chemicals as possible. You will learn to become an expert label reader. After a few days, you'll be surprised by how many chemicals we routinely ingest.
Check for hidden food allergies and remove any "positives" from her diet. Some research has reported that behavior improves when likely allergens are restricted. The most famous allergens are: Wheat, Corn, Dairy products, Chocolate, and sugar.
Eliminate salicylates, including aspirin and salicylate-rich foods, from your diet. Such foods include some spices (chili powder, cloves, oregano, paprika) and an array of fruits, vegetables, and nuts (apples, grapes, oranges, plums, peaches, all types of berries, tomatoes, bell peppers, almonds, and peanuts).
This program, called the Feingold diet, also restricts additives as well as petroleum-based preservatives such as BHA and BHT from the diet. Eliminate such foods for about two weeks, then gradually re-introduce them into your diet to see which may be contributing to behavioral problems.
Try more caffeine. Caffeine acts as a stimulant, like Ritalin, and some nutritionally oriented doctors actually prescribe it in capsule form.
Cut out white sugar. Many people report a "sugar high" when they ingest sugary foods and drinks such as candy, cakes, sweetened fruit juice, or soda pop.
Lifestyle changes. In addition to dietary changes, a few simple strategies for dealing with everyday issues more effectively may help. Time-tested tips include:
Break large projects into smaller, simpler tasks, setting deadlines for each part. Create a daily "to do" list, with a schedule for completing each one, and reward her when she is done.
Choose quiet settings to work and relax. Limit her TV watching and computer games. Instead, encourage her to listen to music, audiotapes or stories, or old-time radio shows.
Alternative Therapies
Certain alternative therapies can complement the effects of medications and other treatments for ADHD. Some are useful for treating the stress, anxiety, and depression that can accompany the disorder.
Massage. One trial reported that teens with ADHD felt better after receiving daily massage therapy. They fidgeted less and were better able to focus on the tasks at hand. Massage can be done at home and combined with aromatherapy. Lavender or Roman chamomile essential oils, added to a carrier base, can be relaxing. A few drops of these oils can also be added to her nighttime bath to promote sleep.
Homeopathy. Practitioners of homeopathic medicine may recommend various remedies to help relieve symptoms of ADHD. These homeopathic pills and liquids are thought to provide balance and restore focus and concentration. For a chronic condition such as ADHD, you would need to visit an experienced homeopath, who would examine her and take a thorough history before prescribing an individualized remedy.

Drugs should be their LAST option. Too many, including one of my kids, get diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. She or he sounds like there's alot of stress and the parents may be focusing too much on him (nephew?) Ritilin will most likely not help at all, just turn him into a zombie so the teachers can cope, not a solution, believe me. If there is a need for helping him focus, try natural products. herbal products. I put my son on 'Alert' and another herbal pill made by Starlight International, he was in 3rd grade, i took him off Ritilin cold turkey and put him on these 2 pills that have all herbal ingredients and after 2 days, the teacher said he was better than when he was on the ritilin. So do some research before taking the doctor's word for it. Try other solutions. Take away the sugars in his diet, that made a big difference in my son as well. Find out what he is truely interested in and help him cultivate that interest. My son loved to draw, and although he was off the wall and totally unable to concentrate for more than 2 minutes in other situations, while drawing, he could sit for 2 hours and i'd not hear a peep out of him, as he drew elaborate drawings! If he/she is the only child, the parents may need to back up a little and give their child a little room to breath.

I agree, stress or ADHD. Stress can alter a brain's neurochemistry enough to mimic ADHD.
Either way, good nutrition is helpful. The Feingold diet was proven false by the National Institute of Mental Health (US Government). A balanced diet showed mental improvement in ADHD subjects as well as the control group (average children).
Others have mentioned a number of nutritional supplements, most are helpful. No one seemed to mention Fish oil (Omega 3), which was scientifically tested in the middle-east. I prefer capsules over a spoonful of fish oil. Also, Soy lecithin (makes chocolate hard) is a source high in nutrients that feed the brain.
If it is not something new (within the past year) then try to find a medical professional that can help. Nutrition can improve brain function, but an ADHD brain needs professional medical help.

This is a common condition in tweens it is part of the hormonal surges that prepare them for teens and ultimately adulthood-have them take the child to a Dr for a complete exam and blood work and recommend a visit to a dietitian to make sure they are getting the right nutrients. Many children lack calcium a necessary nutrient in development of the body and nervous system a lack of calcium has been proven to cause depression and over all malaise. Encourage the parents to look at the child's diet and seek professional intervention. Good Luck!

dont worry. and first of all, you do not criticise or scold her.try to make her read books. they can help change a persons view on life. dont compair her vit others. try to make some time to sit along vit her n study to giv her company.you can even act out as though the family is in some financial crises. although this sounds verry silly, it tends to create a acknowledgement in the child that money is necessary n tat is got only thru education.DONT take her to a psychologist or it mite end up making her feel against you.try to introduce her to gud company as her age ppl tend to have more influence on her than anyone else.all the best to you and her.

The girl's parents should go to the nearest sahajayoga centre from their residence after visiting the site sahajayoga.org and start doing meditation earnestly. In six months or so of their intense meditation, they will see positive changes in their daughter's behaviour. Or else they should seek the help of any other experienced spiritual teacher and start doing meditation after getting self-realization from the teacher. In such a process, they can get still faster results.

i know its really hard when ur in love and at the same time u have to concentrate in ur studies. kinda difficult. you know there are no ways i think, its totally up to u. think that right now study is the only thing, u have exams and u have to pass it somehow, so just try to forget about the girl and i know its hard, but you have to. coz if u will not then there is no any solution. think that u have to do ur exams, and after that you will be able to talk to her or whatever. just try to concentrate on what ur studing. girl later, study now.

Tell the parents to back off and stop pressuring the child. stress will cause everything you are talking about the kid is so afraid of failing they cant think straight. dont listen to the idiots trying to give them drugs.99% of children on drugs dont need them but it is a quick fix. i can't pinpoint exactly, but a change in diet would help. i know someone who had kids who had some kind of disorder where they couldn't concentrate or sit still and they were put on a special diet where they had to avoid certain foods. It sounds skeptical, but look into it. It might help. Also, try all natural and organic foods- they're just better. really,good luck and remember to pray!!
