I received these really cute PJs for Christmas and the first time I washed them they pants faded out differently than the top and they were washed together too.

Question: Is there a detergent that keeps colors like red from fading that you use/recommend. Also I usually wash clothes in cold water, would warm water be better to prevent fading?

Cool water is usually better advised for fadeable colours. There are specific detergents and colour protection liquids on the market now. If you look at Fabriclink.com, they have numerous helpful tips on this very subject.

Some times washing new colored clothing (particularly reds) in plain water with 2 cups of white vinegar will help set the colors.

Hand wash in cold water. Also, try using less detergent.
