Sin is a very hard thing for us to face up to, so we do anything to evade coming to terms with the fact we are all sinners.

1. Lack of tolerance to homosexuals
2. Condemnation of contraception in Africa where it would help stop the spread of AIDS
3. Cover up by the Vatican of child abuse charges
4. Lack of tolerance of the pagan religions
5. Too many Christians are eager to convert people who are not interested in converting. Live and let live yeah?
Despite all the above, I know some good Christians, they are good friends. On the other hand I also know some hypocritical Christians, what they do and what they say are so different is almost unbelievable.
On a personal note, my personal turn off is their belief that they know THE truth, and only they are right. Can people not see that this is the belief that causes so much trouble? As soon as you tell someone what they believe is wrong/evil/blasphemous you start an argument, and when countries argue we call it war.

As we have progressed in terms of education and communication, people are generally less comfortable with dogma and religious instruction. Many millions of people who do not practice a specific religion still have a spiritual life.
America differs in that it is a young country still and is still in the process of affirming it's national identity. All countries do this, we have the Church of England. But our church was formed a long time ago, as was our national identity. A quote I heard the other day...He was so English, he rarely if ever mentioned it!
You should also remember it is quintessentially English to not like excitability, and American worship does get portrayed as somewhat demonstrative!

There are some christians who tell me MY faith is wrong, so what about that? We can't win sometimes. I would say that they are the ones and also the narrowminded christians. I have met them all. Don't let anyone turn you off. Europe is more secular, they have just fallen away from their faith. America has a lot of evangelicals, and is a large continent which almost exists on it's own. Maybe they did not have the enlightenment!

When Europe persecuted their people because of their faith, the faithfull all came to the New World to find freedom, leaving Europe with nothing to worship but themselves. And they are really big on themselves. Very repulsive.

Well, the one thing that I think that turns people off about church are the people in it. Some of them are such hipocrits. They try to act like they are such christians, but when they leave church, they are the devil. Most people in the U.S., I think, are big on church because people from generations ago made it like that, so they just pass it on about how it's suppose to be. Alot of people raise their children on how they were raised up about church.

I don't think churches are bad, but in the words of Morrissey "It says nothing to me about my life".
I actually do believe in God but I worship Him wih good deeds rather than once a week in a building.
