Changes in the DNA sequence of a single gene is called mutation (gene mutation). Mutations are defined as an alteration in the base pair sequence of the genetic material (DNA or RNA). Small scale mutation (changes in one or few nucleotides) like point mutations, insetions, deletions occur at gene level. Large scale mutations occur at chromosomal level.
