To be more specific, a Centrino is not 64-bit capable. A Centrino Core 2 Duo is 64-bit capable.

You have to be very careful about the exact name, because Core Duo is not 64 bit, but Core 2 Duo is. Core 2 Duo and Turion X2 are about equal, slight advantage to the Core 2 Duo. The Core Duo is below both. Don't pay any attention to billionaire, doesn't know what he is talking about.

Intel Centrino Core Duo is 32bit and Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo is 64bit.

Well, the terminology is a bit confusing to many of us.

Intel's Centrino Core processors followed a multiprocessing environment within themselves. How? They put in two 32-bit processors to perform in parallel. So, the total address locations are 2 raised to 64. So, your processor core now can fetch that many instructions (and data) in one cycle of operation.

But, the bottom line is - there are two 32-bit processors running in there. So, why Windows XP x64 supports the hardware? i.e. why does it allow itself to run on such processor architecture which is a pseudo-64 bit one? The reason is the Operating system itself follows a rule - if you find the processor capable of fetching 2 raised to 64 instructions (shallow level) - allow yourself to install on it. It is a modded world!

The core 2 duo, quad etc. are versions of essentially the same architecture but with significant improvement in them.
