What sights should one see while in Chicago?

There are several things if this is your first time in Chicago:
1) Have Dim Sum in China town at Three Happiness and walk around the area.
2) The Art Institute, Alder Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and the Science and Industry Museum(baby exhibition is very interesting)
3) Shopping - just walk around down town and visit the many shops on Michigan Avenue and Water Tower place (mall with high end shops.
4) Go to top of the John Hancock Observatory if you want to see the city from above
5) Great dinning at "Fogo de Chão" - high end steaks - Southern Brazil style dinning

Chicago has so many great places to visit. For shopping check out Michigan Avenue and State Street. They have ton's of shops and run parallel to each other. You can also find lots of resturants down Michigan Avenue.

For a night out on the town check out the bars/clubs in Wrigleyville. I personally like Barcelona, Goose Island has Karoke on thursday nights, Big City is ok. For a mellow mixed crowd The Funky Bhudda Lounge is good, Hogs & Honey has mechanical bull riding and girls dancing on the bar,

More upscale clubbing experience I would go to Crobar, Excalibur is fun (lots of tourists though - but if you pick up one of those chicago free tourists guide you can get free admission into Exaclibur), Le Passage is really nice, Soundbar is fun (lots of music, partying til the wee hours - call ahead and get on the guestlist for free admission).

Other things do to - visit Millenium park (with the big bean statue) its on Michigan Avenue, Navy Pier is nice, Check out the museums, The Aquarium is amazing, walk along the Lake Michigan pier.

For quick bites to eat Potbelly has really yummy sandwichs, so foes Jimmy Johns. make sure you try the famous Garrett popcorn (on State Street) that Oprah raves about.

The poverty of the people, the filthy streets and backwater apartments. The pimps and prostitutes. The ripoff clubs that charge high prices for drinks. The criminals that bash, rape, theive and damage property. Ohh yeah lots of sights to see in Chicago!

Take the time to visit the high rise project buildings that are still standing, as a testatment to what a government can (uphold the standards of a just and substainable society) and cannot do for it's people (live their lives for them). The first remains to be seen, but tearing down those buildings is a start.
