Did this guy have any family?

Yes but we don't know anything about them.
What we know is that York was Clark's personal slave assigned by Clark's family. We think that York's Parents were probably house servants and that would allow York to be considered for the position.

What we do know is that York was considered to be an equal on the expedition and even got to vote on things along with Sacajawea the first that a woman and a black man have been given in this country. That York pushed Clark for his freedom after the expedition returned and that Clark wouldn't do it until about 2 years and that York died of fever in 1810 in Tennessee on his way back to Clark.
