wood rot is generally caused by mold or fungus in damp shady areas. there is also wood infestation cause by insects such a termites, ants or beetle larvae. as for the ravages of age, that usually refers to sun damage and can be minimized by oil, paint or stain. if the wood is protected and kept dry and insect free it can last 100s of years.

When I was 16 I objected to the term- my son- which came from not my father but a complete stranger. My mate hates being called a Chav, I can't stand the term Middle aged, it sounds more like Middle ages ! Geriatric is another bone of contention ? What about Recycled teenager or Active Pensioner ? I think I prefer Senior Citizen, but there again that is only my own personal view. That is the trouble there are always those who want to pigeonhole and steriotype everyone, but everyone is an individual, at every age level and what seems to be either applicable to the age attained, the person might be either forward or backward to those years. A friend of mine is 41 but acts like a 80 year old, my mum when at 80 acted more like a teenager, so that leaves the question why catigorise in the first place? We are all part of the human race, as long as we don't come last who cares !!lol!!

yes and no, Wood rot is usally caused by moiture and termite's as is aged unless properly taken care of also air will cause wood to rot. If you have ever seen logs being brought up from the bottom of the great lakes has not had any contact with air for over a hundred years and it is as prestine as the day it was cut. Wood that has sat out in the open and exposed to air and moiture has decaed and rotted out.

Yes wood rots when it stays wet for a long period. Wood weathers for long exposure to the elements. Rotted wood has no substance, weathered wood is still usable.
