okay, so i currently have seven pets.and i love them to pieces, and they are very well taken care of.i am 17 and sometimes i think that my heart is too big, because i want to take in every unwanted animal in the world. and i would if i could. anyways, there's this girl that i work with, and she has a young hamster that she doesn't want anymore, and she says that she is going to let him outside if no one takes him (which no one has showed any interest yet). it is below freezing outside, there is snow on the ground, and he would certainly die if he was let out.my mom said that i could take him in, so today i am planning on telling her that i'll take him.i know that i could take care of him. and i have had 3 hamsters before, so i know how to take care of them. currently i have a dog, 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs, a chinchilla, and a bearded dragon. my cats don't bother the small animals at all. and my dog (he is a chihuahua) looooves my little pets. he licks them, protects them, and loves them.

Yes, you are doing a good thing. Too bad there aren't more responsible 17 year olds in this crazy world:)

Take some tissues and rip these in thin strips, place that in his cage. Also, old toilet tissue rolls or old shreds of cotton socks work. Your hamster will build a warm nest. Be sure to not place the cage by window pr heater (cold or sun). Place it in an area that has consistent warmth. Be sure to have clean water each day. Clean out the cage weekly (leave a smidgen of the cleanest nest material for the hamster to feel home!) Keep food dry (seal bag) and give a bit of fresh foods on occasion (carrot, nut, apple)

You sound a lot like me. I have 4 ferrets, a cockatiel, a sun conure, 2 gerbils, and a bearded dragon. I have rescued all of them from people who didnt want them anymore. You are definately doing the right thing. If only more people were as responsible as you. You are a wonderful person with a huge heart.

You have a gentle heart. If you have the resources to take in the animal, by all means do so. Also, there's nothing wrong if you want to just 'foster' the hamster and look for a new home for him.

Hope this helps

oh wow that was so absolutely sweet of you. That is so sad that your friend would do that to a defenseless animal. I am the same way i feel really bad for all the mistreated and homeless animals in the world and if i was in your position i would have done the same thing. We can't save them all but we can sure help. Thank you for saving his little life.

I would take him if those were the circumstances also. I also have a habit of taking in animals nobody wants...I have 13 previously unwanted pets.

Yes, take him in. And give said girl a damn good slap, and an instruction not to get another pet unless she's prepared to look after it properly.

I don't know, you sound like you have had 20 pets before, all of which died because of unappropriate treatment, even though you love the little critters. Other than that, I don't know, I personally like hamsters well baked.
