You spouse should be put above all others.....until you have children. Then your children will always and SHOULD always be put above all else. I would hope that your spouse never made you choose between him and the kids.

Above all others.... Your wife/husband is going to be in your life forever you will grow old with him/her. You will know them and they will no you better then what any one else ever will.
Think about it who else have you ever or would ever live with for over 50 to 60 years?

Hmm good question well lets see... I think God should be above it and when you are dating above everything but God and your kids but when you are married They are only second to God in your life and your kids are third important....
