I dont think either should change it. But since the US. State was named Georgia first than id say the country should change it. Its been changed 3 times already so why not once more.

About as much as you think the US state of Georgia should change its name to avoid confusion with the country Georgia.

First of all, foreign countries with foreign languages have different names for their countries. People from the country of Georgia probably call their country by a different name than what we call it. Therefore, if Americans or other English-speaking people have trouble with the name of Georgia, then we should just call it something else. It shouldn't be Georgians renaming their own country if they call it something else.

Yes, they should. The state of Georgia is far more important than a politically and economically corrupt Eastern European state, and should therefore be awarded sole use of the name. And Albania should also change their name, which is uncomfortably close to that of New York's capital.
The US should also be given proprietary rights to Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, just in case we want to use those at some time in the future. And I agree with Katalex about Paris - obviously Paris Hilton is more newsworthy and valued than a lousy French city.

since the country was around long before the state, if either place should change, it should be the state.
but changing is sort of silly, all the same.
with the logic of only one place should have a name, then there would be many places needing to change their names....let's see,
Washington (state)
Washington (DC)
Washington (PA)
31 counties in the USA named Washington
and that is just for starters....
you just need to be specific when you are talking about a place.
I live in a town called Indiana, PA ......so should the state of Indiana change its name?
something to think about.

I think the US state of Georgia should change its name to avoid being named after King George III, from whom we declared our independence.

The people in Georgia know where they are! It would be up to them to change it and I can't see why they would
Now if you wanted to change the English name of Nippon, from Japan to Nippon, I'd understand that

No...
There are tons of cities named for states and countries, roads named for cities, states, or countries, etc. Should all of them be changed too?
