Not sure if it's not the other way around.

Smitty is correct is saying that Kareem's aloofness may have cost him in terms of popularity. Kareem was never one to go after the spotlight, he just quietly went about his business.

He was also much more reserved than Ali (who deliberately went after the limelight). Plus, he avoided the media attention, therefore they interpreted that as being stuck up and arrogant, which Jabbar wasn't at all.

He has since said that he wishes he would have been more appreciative of the attention, especially from the fans.

You are 100% correct in saying that he was one of the greatest ever. All of his peers have said that along with Wilt and Russell, the 3 greatest centers of all time.

Kareem is currently with the Los Angeles Lakers as an assistant coach. His main job is working with and developing Andrew Bynum. I have said to some that Kareem is the best player ever in the NBA. For all you Jordan people please remember Kareem played in the league forever, actually 22 seasons. That tells me his conditioning was impeccable. Yes he had an unstoppable shot called the "skyhook". What I liked about the skyhook was you knew it was coming and yet you couldn't stop it. In the clutch Kareem was money. Jabbar is actually training Bynum on that same shot. If Andrew can just learn from the big fella he'll become an unstoppable force. As to whether or not he's being blackballed I can't really agree with you on that one. If that's the case then Scottie Pippen, who has 6 rings, is being blackballed. I really think some of the players don't mind being out of the spotlight for a while. Hey, James Worthy, former Lakers player has 3 NBA Title rings is he being black-balled? Again I don't vehemently disagree I just can't say for sure if Kareem was being blackballed or not.

I don't think he is being black ball by anyone. The 3 people you mentioned, Jordan, Magic, and Bird, are great players as well, but they were also more than that. Magic and Bird put the NBA back on the map. Given Dr. J some say did add excitement back in the game but the rivalry between those two really excited the people back to the NBA. Jordan also helped the NBA by elevating the NBA in a global spotlight. That is really why those 3 get more airtime and publicity than anyone else. You have so much great players, Stockton all-time assist leader, Wilt all-time championship rings, etc. But thats all they are, great players...they did nothing much more than that.

I don't believe that he is being black balled at all. I think that his time was then (early 80's) and this is now. It won't be long and Jordon's time in the limelight will fade and there will be newer talent to showcase.

If that's the case, then Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Dr. J (Julius Erving), Karl Malone, Clyde Drexler, Akeem Alijuon (sp?)etc. well, they all must be getting black balled too.

Blackballed as in not getting the credit he deserves as a great player or just not being mentioned at all?

Smitty's right he's aloof. But there has been many people who say he's an outright jerk. When you act that way doors get shut.
