No cingular bought AT&T. But now they are reorganizing and cingular is being dropped. It will now be AT&T. Amazing how many times AT&T was broken up, bought, and sold that they are coming back together and becoming AT&T once again.

ATT co-owned Cingular with Bell South. Now that ATT bought out Bell South, it also owns 100% of Cingular.

Okay. SBC and Bell south owned cingular orginally. Cingular bought AT +T wireless. Later SBC bought AT+T and changed their name to AT+T then the new AT+T bought the rest of the companies with a share in cingular so they own cingular. Which they are changing to AT+T wireless. So cingular is still technically owned by SBC but have changed their name to AT+T

Well...in simple terms yes. But in reality they owned it.

Cingular was formed by Bell South and AT&T, a few years ago then Cingular bought out AT&T Wireless.

Now Bell South was bought out by or merged with AT&T. Therefore, they want to get rid of the name Bell South and Cingular and just use AT&T again.

Yes it is true. It was in the news and online a few days ago. At present, At&T will be adding their logo to the Cingular one...eventually Cingular will just go away.

Yes they did. First Cingular bought out AT&T's wireless, but now ATT bought out SBC, which is a parent company of Cingular. Now they're switching back.

SBC owned Cingular before it became at&t. So technically, at&t did not buy out cingular, it just inherited it from the merging. although i also heard that cingular is going to be renamed to at&t wireless.
