When I was younger and crazier I had a 325i coupe BMW and of course I wanted to put her to the test. I took her out on the motorway in the middle of the night and put my foot down. She topped out around 140mph, just as I saw a squad car crossing the motorway on an overpass. I kept my foot down as I knew there was no way he would catch me. The thing was when I came off at the following exit there was two squad cars waiting for me! I nearly s**t myself, thinking I was going down and would never drive again. Thankfully they couldn't prove what speed I was doing and I got off with a very severe warning. Blessed!

I try not to drive more than 5 to 7 MPH over the speed limit if the speed limit is 50 MPH or higher, on the theory that the police won't stop me for being that much over. On freeways I might set the cruise to 72 if the limit is 65. Below 50 I drive no more than a couple MPH over the limit. In residential areas I drive under the speed limit because there might be pedestrians.
If traffic is heavy, roads are wet or icy, it's foggy, etc. I drive considerably slower, probably well under the legal limit.

Well I live in england and some of the cars have tiny engines, like maybe 1000CC (1 Litre) and is a stickshift. Apparently top speed of the car in the book was 95MPH (It's a little car designed for town and city use) and I've changed up from Fourth gear to fifth gear at 98MPH and she still kept pulling. However my problem is, since its a digital speed gauge it doesn't go higher than 115MPH so I couldn't tell you.
In a different car I've had more than the highest speed so far, but that was on a race track, not public roads (they take your license straight away if you're caught doing over 100MPH!!!)

It's all depending on the scenario. If it's on the freeway, I'll usually chill around 80-90 MPH. If it's on the streets, about 5-10 MPH over. Residential I stay safe with, not chancing killing someone. However, if I see a car passing me on the freeway when I'm already doing 85 or so, I'll stay behind him and let him find the cops for me.
Topped out at 135...

If I know there arent any cops around I drive as fast as I feel safe doing. I rarely hit over 100mph. But I took my RX7 137 mph a few years ago and then got off the highway and some guy in a civic wanted to race so I did it. But when I slammed in into second gear my driveshaft broke off of the differential and ****** my car up. I felt pretty lucky it didnt break while I was over 100mph!

There is a highway in Wyoming that I NEVER see cops on and usually drive 85-95mph. The last time I drove it I got lucky. I came up behind a pickup and had to slow down to the speed limit just as a Highway patrolman came over the hill. Seeing him I think I will slow down a little next time I drive it.

Depends on the situation. 5-10 over. It is a bad habit that has cost me a few tickets. When cops are around I drive right at the limit and pass them even if they are going under the limit.

I try to keep it at a safe speed but I still get well over the limit. That's better than it used to be, when I would drive over a hundred miles an hour!

You know you wouldnt expect it but most of the time I drive slower and safer than most people. And I signal 95% of the time, mostly not when I'm coming into my own dead end driveway.
However just by looking at my car you'd think I'm speeding when I'm parked.
BTW I've gone faster than every single post here so far.
BOO don't thumbs down me just cuz I've been faster than all you.
