Just watch Larry King and you will get the picture. The TV media worries about ratings more than anything else, so that may help explain this fixation on stars rather than on more important social and political trends across the globe. If you want a better sense of what is going on around the globe, see if you can get BBC News or CNN International from your cable provider.

In a word yes. There is less real formalized journalism going on and news organizations have become gossip columnists.
News has been 'dummied' down and faux news shows like the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have unfortuantely become too many people 's source of news. Newspaper readership is down, news magazine readership is down and people no longer have intelligent discourses on issues in the news. Rather than have radicalized political rants by extremists of political parties who use ' journalists' as spin meisters rather than journalists.
It's very sad and I hope people going into the media actually start doing real journalism, rather than the fluff stuff.

YES.. I do not care about seeing Whitney, K-Fed, Brittany or anyone else every freaking night when I am trying to watch the news. They are human beings. Who cares if they are dating or getting divorced. It happens everyday in this country. If I got a DUI, I would be in jail.. Not on the breaking news coverage on Extra or Entertainment tonight!
