My contractions were the worse part, but after the epidural the pain wasn't so bad. The pushing is really tiresome and it takes a lot out of you, but the pain is not that bad.

With my first I had an epidural so I could not feel a thing while pushing. I would say that pushing hurts more. But maybe that is because with my second my contractions weren't that bad until about 20 minutes before my son was born. I went from 4cm - 10cm in 25 minutes. No time for an epidural so I felt like my insides were being ripped apart which was way worse than the contractions. But then again I only pushed about 3 times and he was out.

After having 4 kids, I would have to state that the contractions are the worse part as it can be lengthly to get to the fully dilated stage. When it comes time to push, you have experienced quite a bit of pain and now what I believe kicks in is the knowledge that that child you have carried, loved and nurtured for 40 precious weeks is making his/her arrival, and this pain is nothing as you long to see that little unique face.
Good Luck
P.S. I had kidney stones as well.. Those was not a pleasant delivery. I would have rather gave birth to an elephant than kidney stones. So if you were to compare childbirth to kidney stones, I'd go through more labor of the children any day.

For me it's definitely the contractions...when pushing stage comes it's almost a relief to actually be able to "do" something...also in the pushing phase your contractions back off in length...you may have one like every five minutes...the only thing that hurts about pushing w/o pain meds is when the baby actually crowns. This is called the ring of fire cuz it burns like crazy...At that point also you have to be aware to only push when you're told to, so that you don't tear...I had first 3 w/o pain mes and next two with an epidural...and plan on an epi for this one too...Good luck

I did no meds with my second and I will tell you that pushing him out was a complete relief after those contractions! The doctor wasnt there yet and he was coming out and I had to hold it in until he got there. As soon as he got in front of me my son popped out and that part never hurt. So to answer your question if you go with no meds then the contractions hurt worse (imo) but with my first i had an epidural bc i was on pitocin so i never felt the contractions but pushing him out was very painful because I could feel everything then. Good luck, and so you know...I prefer natural over meds, much better imo.

I had both my boys naturally no drugs. For me, contractions hurt more than the pushing. While your pushing all you are basically thinking about is holding your baby. When that moment comes, the pain disappears and its all worth it. Everyone pain tolerance is different, go with the flow and don't let anyone try to tell you to take drugs or not it is totally up to you. Good Luck!

Contractions are way worse (for me anyway), pushing is just exhausting , especially after going through all the contractions. Good luck with the natural delivery , i wanted one too but i definitely wasnt expecting the contractions to be as intense as they were, i will try again with this pregnancy but dont be disappointed if things dont go according to plan, you are still a champ!

The contractions are definitely the worse part. Once you start pushing, the contractions work with you to get the baby out and you don't notice them as bad. Good luck!

I went through 2 labors neither one did I have an epidural, I can tell you that it will hurt, I only had 4 stitches with my first, none with my second. I wasen't cut I tore on my own but didn't even know it. I think contractions are much worse than pushing, you will feel burning while you push, which is the strecting but when you get that urge to push it feels SO GOOD. Don't be afraid of tearing or getting cut, not everyone needs to be, and like I said I didn't even know I tore, and received stitches until my doc. told me.
