trying to find out if Sesame Street was originally German or American

It started in the US. Here's some info from the Sesame Workshop:

How did Sesame Workshop and Sesame Street begin?
Sesame Workshop and Sesame Street were created as an "experiment" in 1968, and the show debuted on November 10, 1969. The series was designed to use the medium of television to reach and teach preschoolers, and give them skills that would provide a successful transition from home to school. The show gave children a head start and provided them with enough confidence to begin learning the alphabet, numbers, and pro-social skills.

It was truly revolutionary. Everything about the series was a departure from previous children's television programming—from its format to its focus on disadvantaged inner city children, to the way it combined education and entertainment. Sesame Street was—and continues to be—the most thoroughly researched and tested television show ever produced, and has received the most Emmys in television history.

I saw a documentary on PBS about Sesame Street a while ago and if anything Sesame Workshop brought the show to Germany. What they do is work with the people in that area so that they create a Sesame Street that is relevant to their homeland.

Sesame Street was created in 1968 and was shown in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the very begining before it went nationwide in 1969. I lived in PA when it was started and my mom told me she'd sit me down in front of the tv and I would not move till it was over. Also, the Muppets (that's what they call the puppets) are from here not Germany. The people that origianlly did S.S. created them theirself. Ie: Jim Henson- Kermit, Frank Oz- grover, Carroll Spinney- Oscar, Big Bird etc.
I remember Mr. Hooper and watched it when they told Big Bird that he'd died. My youngest sister was watching it then and I cried it was so sad. I've watched special over the years w/my own kids. They did a special about tornados (since we live in tornado alley we made sure we watched that one). My mom even taped the episode where Maria gave birth for my sister to watch later when she got a little older.
It's one of the best shows. I remember later after it would come Mr. Rogers (I miss that one) and the show Electric Company (it was a seperate show made by the same people as Sesame St. it was geered towards the older kids).

It is 100% American. It was started as a project aimed towards inner city kids in New York. It became EXTREMELY popular with kids of all backgrounds and eventually it was marketed and translated into many languages with shows in dozens of countries. I imagine Germany is one of the many!!!

Sesame Street AKA "The Electric Company" is originated from America...... It's probably in many languages on many different t.vs via/sattelite.......But, it is definately American Made!!! I once saw it at my gf.s friends house on her tv, while her nieces, & nephew's watched, it in Spanish, because they were Latino's.... And I remember watching it in Spanish while I was waiting for my friend to get done getting ready, for us to go out...... And what a "Trip" that was seeing them all talking in Spanish!! HaHa!! It was kind of cool, now that I reflect back, to those days!! I didn't understand very much of it at all, but it was cool that her neice & nephew could enjoy it in their own language, you know..... Smile!!!
