I have a Compaq Presario notebook, and there is a button up by the on/off switch (above the keyboard), and when you turn it on, a blue light flashes. This means that the wireless receiver is turned on. If you have a cable internet connection, you can just get a wireless router, and hook it up (you can buy a wireless router for like, 40-60 bucks. Just go to best buy, etc., and ask them for advise.

Click on the START menu button on the bottom left hand of the screen. Click ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, COMMUNICATIONS, and either Set Up Wireless Connection/Find Wireless Connection? Something like that!

My computer is set up like this and will show you the local wireless networks, some you can usually access and some are secured!

Good Luck

if your old IBM was able to connect wireless the basically your network is already on wireless... i believe that most laptop now adays has a built in wireless card already. all you need to do is configure the wireless network connection on your laptop to connect to your network.....if your old IBM was not able to connect to the internet wirelessly at home then ist possible that your network is not wireless & that you needed a router...for further assistance & additional info call your ISP

Your new machine would have a b/g wireless card built in. Get an 802.11g wireless router and the built in card will work perfect.

maximum individuals that can't search for the internet and don't have a chum or relative like me finally end up having to pay someone to restoration those type of issues. for instance, even as i became away backpacking interior the Sierra this summer season my mom ended up having to beg the guy who got here to position in her new information superhighway provider to come back interior and set up a prompt community for her, a provider which could in many cases value more effective. And in basic terms earlier I were given lower back she had gained an endemic, by technique of clicking on some e mail link ensuing in a pop-up which spoofed Microsoft safe practices necessities, which she persevered to click on till it had disabled her anti-virus and left her unable to apply her laptop. She contacted a chum's relative who carried out laptop fix and became quoted at $50/hour. yet another save the front organisation quoted $185 to get rid of an endemic. after I lower back i began in secure mode, loaded malwarebytes on my laptop, transferred it to a flash force and then put in it on her laptop, deleted the virus and were given Microsoft safe practices necessities and the Firewall re-enabled. I then suggested the WiFi community became set up with in common words WEP encryption, so I logged into the router, replaced the safe practices to WPA2, replaced the SSID and password. yet then even as both my computers, operating living house windows XP linked to the community, my mom's living house windows Vista laptop would not. After a pair hours analyze and attempting various diverse approaches such as a Microsoft FixIt that became all about this problem-free concern yet did no longer something, i ultimately went to the producer's web site and downloaded the hot motive force for the WiFi community adaptor and the concern became solved.
