No your oil shouldn't have anything to do with that. You should be having your oil changed every 3000 miles. Also your air filter should be checked regularly too. You should pass with out much problems as long as you have been maintaining your car. Usually it is your Oxygen censer or the censer in the manifold that fail with age also high mileage may have something to do with it. Again if the car hasn't been maintained by you. Regular maintenance is important with any motor. It doesn't matter if it is a lawn mower or what. You can expect to pay around $300.00 dollars to make repairs to your vehicle so it will pass. The first thing you must remember that if a vehicle hasn't been maintain that the cost to fix things keep going up. So your repair bill will on average be hire than for someone that has maintained their vehicle...Best of luck...

It's NOT required... however! If it's close to your next oil change interval, go ahead and do it before the smog check. The PCV (positive crank ventilation) system of your vehicle is designed to allow your engine to breath fumes located in oil compartments (oil pan, ect.).
The fumes are then burned through the combustion process. If the oil in your engine is contaminated due to inadequate oil changes, it may very well cause your vehicle to fail the inspection.
Contaminated oils are high in Hydrocarbons and will present a rich mixture to the engine chambers(too much fuel). So, avoiding oil changes not only causes pre-mature engine wear but can also cause your vehicle to fail the smog inspection. Change the oil. It's insurance that only costs $20.00-$30.00.
I hope this information is helpful to you. If there is anything I can help with in the future, don't hesitate to e-mail.

I am not sure where people get their answers, but some of them are pretty funny.
First of all, unless there are major problems with your car, you will not have a problem passing the emissions test. Also, it is the OIL companies that say every 3 thousand miles. It isn't necessary for 7-12 K miles, or every 6 months. The every 3 months 3k miles is a myth.
next, if you you want to burn it cleaner, get a GOOD quality additive. I don't know where you are, so i won't suggest anything. I get what is called "freedom fuel." It also increases gas mileage. You probably don't need a "tune up". Those are crap. Unless of course, your car is old and has never had anything done to it. Cars are built to last!!

You should get an oil change and a smog check. This will improve your chances of passing. If you are in a strict state like California, you may even have to have exhaust system work done as well.

Only if it needs changing. Your car should be in good working order. The smog check, checks for unburned hydrocarbons. Things to check on your car. Check the air filter, make sure it's clean. If you have over 50,000 miles on your car, change the spark plugs. Make sure your gas cap fits correctly. If your car has 80 plus thousand miles, change the plug wires. A car has to be in top running order to pass the smog check. If your car needs a tune up, have it done before the check is made. The smog check cost about $30.00 on average.

No. Just take it in and get it smog checked. However, if your due for an oil change, then have the oil change done first.

If you have alot of miles on your car I would. For one gasoline gets mixed with oil. Two,used oil is thinner and will leak past the rings. High mileage use 20-50 wt. oil.

You do not.....But, It is a good idea. If your car has dirty oil and a dirty AIR filter and the engine is marginal, it may not pass... It probably is due for a change any how...Loosen up and do it...

No you don't need to.
The emissions test analyzes your exhaust...hopefully you don't have any oil in your exhaust or you have bigger problems than the smog.
Save you money and good luck.
