Generally, you should keep a minimum of 10% of your hard drive free so Windows has room for the files it needs to create while running. 30gig of a 100gig hard drive is (huh...) 30%. So that should be sufficent for running your PC.

As far as HOW to free up space: the easier is to move data that you do not access frequently (music, pictures, documents, etc) off the hard drive and on to a CD or DVD. Also uninstall any programs that you can live without.

40 GB isn't sufficient. i exploit homestead windows XP (sp3) and that i've got an 80 GB tricky tension. the finished length of my c: tension is 14.5 GB. Now, I actual have purely 4.35 GB loose area in my c: tension. I purely setting up my motherboard drivers (built-in video motive force, HD audio motive force) and a few mandatory application like MS workplace, Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD, Kaspersky cyber web protection and so on. homestead windows XP desires purely 8GB loose area. yet, i think of a tricky tension with minimum a hundred and twenty GB loose area is sufficient for homestead windows XP.

Depends... if the 70GB is filled with junk/useless stuff... you should clean up
But Windows XP works fine with 2GB
For W.Vista 4-5 GB work fine

You need 15% free to use the defragment utility, so I'd say you're ok for now.

Sure. I would start to worry if you get down to a few GBs.

30gb is large enough to collect 8000 songs! So yes!
