I have been doing some research on writing a self help book for parents. iUniverce called me and really like my concept after explaining my vision for the book. Has anyone had dealings with iUniverse? I did not make any commitments with them yet and would be grateful for feedback/direction with this publisher. They sound too good to be true.

It works fine, they are a self-publisher not a traditional one.
That means you pay them to publish your book and then
you pay them by the copy after the first run. It's a great option if you can market the book yourself or if other publishers don't want to publish your book (or you don't want to wait for them to decide about it). It used to be called vanity press. Iuniverse is the new way. It works fine but you have to understand what it is. You have to do most of the marketing work yourself and when you get 'royalties' from copies sold that is because you sold the copies. that is not their business to sell books. just to publish them.
i checke the link above because i know someone who published on iuniverse and was pretty sure it is not a scam.
the link shows that iuniverse is not a scam. but you have to understand it is "self-publishing" or "vanity press"

iUniverse is a self-publisher which means you will have to pay for publication. This would be ok if others did not instantly recognize that iUniverse is a self-publishing operation and no quality can be associated with their books. They will publish anything for anybody whether or not it is junk just so long as the author can pay.

I have seen iUniverse authors cursed and abused because the fans of science fiction knew exactly what iUniverse was. I don't know how the readers of parenting books will treat you, but be prepared.

They are a scam operation:

that should start you. There's plenty more info about them on line.

Look up their name + publishing scam

too good to be true is a dead give away.

I've never had any personal experience with them but I know some people that used them and were very happy.
