If you know his route to and from work, you can make signs up. Start with one at the corner and have it say something like "Hey good Looking" Keep going until you have one at his work telling him that you love him.

you should start with something silly and small and then work your way up. Have clues for him to go to specific spots instead of running around like crazy because if he does that he might find you before he finds all the gifts. Anyways, for the first gift get a new guitar picks. The second gift get a cd of his favorite band that he doesn't have. For the third, get some car cleaning products. For a fourth gift get a pack of his favorite beer. For number 5 get a personalized pool stick and have it where the pool table is and have the pool balls spell out: I love you! For a sixth gift get a new amplifier for his guitar. Number 7 should be like something to do with the bar for the basement... maybe some chairs or something that matches whatever material he is using. While he is searching for number 8 have music be blaring from your guys' bedroom making him curious as to what's going on. Number 8 could be like some massage oils and some handcuffs and whip cream with those sex game cubes... you know like it says lick, touch, rub .. whatever on one cube and like the name of a body part on the other. And then for the 8th you could have a note with a crazy but sexy outfit for him to wear and tell him to meet you in your guys' bedroom. Hey who said he should be the only one enjoying the view! lol

The gift, of course, depends on the degree of involvement. In spite of not being engaged, it would appear that you are quite serious. Perhaps a photograph of yourself in a hand decorated frame, bought at a pound store.
Or, a very fancy hand written "I LOVE YOU" also framed.
Much depends, of course, on your budget. I remember some years ago seeing a heart mounted on white felt, glued to a board. Of course that could also wind up mounted in the same pound store frame.
I suppose I have frames on my mind today.

You could do a really cheesy mixed cd for him with lots of happy love songs and then the next day give him one full of sad break-up songs, (very funny effect)
