Well, it did win awards for best actor, actress, and foreign film, but again, just a matter of opinion. Many critically acclaimed films are not fan favorites (for instance, Chariots of Fire did horribly at the box office.)
The American film critics voted Citizen Kane as best all-time movie. I happen to like Imitation of Life.
So who's to say?

Well, that's an opinion. I think the God Father II is the best movie ever.
