I can say from experience that they are not thinking about addiction. I tried meth once, and got hooked. Luckily, I got pregnant which was what made me quit... I quit the day I found out, but no, they don't think about the addiction, and the fruture when they are just trying it at a party.

well depending on the situation..there are lots of reasons. I know when I had my first (and only one) experiment with "pot" I was at a party (Woodstock 25th anniversary) , had to much to drink. (I was 25), and we were all trying it out. I have to say I must not have "done it" right cause all I did was get sleepy. Could have been the beer lol. Since nothing happened to me that I thought was "awesome" I've never touched it or anything else. I got more of a "high" off of some pain meds after a surgery once and absolutely hated the feeling... blah never again.

Depends what kind of drug it is, if it is heroin or cocaine, and what other kinds of drugs they have tried.

If they have no tolerance at all, it may just take one time for them to overdose ... or get addicted.

If it is a less dangerous/addicting drug, don't worry so much - probably just experimenting and/or giving in to peer pressure.

If it is something strong like opiates or cocaine, start monitoring this person's behavior immediately ... they could start using regularly.

more than likely, they are just thinking about what the feeling is going to be like with the drug they are about to try..
a first time user never thinks about addiction or becoming a hard core user...

people can try things one time without fear of automatically becoming a junkie... Hopefully, they dont like it enough to make it an everyday occurance or make stupid choices altering their lives while high...

i was thinking about all of that to some degree when i tried it,
but not to a degree that i was scared to try, its kind of like your first fight on a plane, its natural to think about skiding off the runway or loosing a wing in flight, or terrorists, but the adventure is worth the risk, so you take the trip anyway,

Just TRYING it doesn't necessarily mean your going to become addicted to it.
