Usually when companies post job listings they have an immediate position to fill. I would wait until a week or two before you move out there to answer a job listing.

It depends on what position that you will applying for. Do you have something special to offer or are you one of many people with that experience. There are agencies that specialize in out of state jobs. If you do not have job in the making by May, you can do temporary work in the meantime.
I would suggest that you look for job a large companies that have a branch in Hawaii. My niece moved from California to Hawaii with a company that open a branch in Hawaii. It was a large cable company, and she had to take a cut in pay. The cost of living is way, way higher in Hawaii than in most states. After a couple of years she ended up coming back to California.

Start by looking for the local newspaper online - and then apply for jobs when your move gets closer. Put in your cover letter that you are moving on such and such a date. You may not get any call backs, because many don't want to interview or hire until someone moves to their area. Don't be discouraged!! The other thing to consider is a temp agency there - at least until you get settled. This way you have some income coming in.

You can do research, but don't apply for yet. If you are not available for an interview, it will look bad. It depends on your field, but you could probably safely apply for a job 4-6 weeks prior to your moving date. If the company is interested in you, they could wait for a few weeks.

Look on yahoo yellow pages for companies in your field in Hawaii just before you move and give them a Hawaiian address, but your current cellphone. Call and find out if they have openings and if you can fax over your resume and to who's attention. If they don't have an opening ask them if they know someone who does. Follow up with call to person you faxed to

Use the internet. Many employers post psitions with services such as Monster.com and others. Or call the local Better Business Bereau and find other employment services.

I would research on the Internet and write some companies you might be interested in. It would not hurt to put in an application with an "available by" date.
