I don't want to sound ignorant when I talk to these doctors. Can anyone please tell me what you call classifying wounds. Is it called assessing, classifying, or something else. Also too if you could direct me to a good website, and give me any additional terminology that may come in handy when talking about a shin bone breaking and protuding out of someones leg. Thanks

You should not worry about impressing docs. Sometimes they don't use the fancy words among themselves. They know what fractures are and what can happen, so just decribe what you saw.

Not only that, lay people trying to act smart is a pain in the butt and does not impress them.

You might want to check out Merck's online medical terminology manual: http://www.merck.com/mmhe/index.html

try http://firstaid.about.com.
Also, consider this -- when a doctor uses a term you don't understand, you don't have to feel ignorant. Ask them to explain. That's part of their job.

you can say what docb said, but youre better off to let them show off their superior knowledge, more likely to get appropriate treatment if you let them arrive at their own diagnosis. they hate it when you tell them what you have, even if its a knife sticking out.
