Yes, bullying is not uncommon. You can try the whole being the bigger person and turning the other cheek if you like, but it's b0ll0cks. What you'll find is that they'll laugh because it's obvious they're the bigger person, hit you anyway because they don't know how to communicate any other way and then hit your other cheek because it's there and they might as well.
It's not very pC to say so, but the answer in this case is violence. Hard, fast and uncomprimising. It's the only language these people understand, and once you learn to speak it they do get the message.

Absolutely! The people who get kicks out of bullying others only enjoy it if they see that they are in control, and see the bullied person as the underdog. Get yourself involved in some self defence classes and start sticking up for yourself. As an adult it works well to keep your head down and get on with things, as you don't get any hassle, although you're less likely to get a promotion too. However, in school it is just too easy for bullies to pick on the weak ones who don't answer back. Do not let yourself become a bullied person. It may well affect you into adulthood. The best of luck to you!

Unfortunately it happens. I was a shrimp in school, and the weaker upper classmen would use me to prove to themselves that they weren't the weakest one around. In Prison's it happens all the time too. If you don't want to become somebody's mistress, you'll have to kick somebody's ***. That usually means the smaller guys get chewed up and spit out constantly.
A sense of humor will usually diffuse the situation every time without the need for weapons or fighting. It's good to know self defense, but it rarely ever needs to escalate to the point of using a weapon (as above poster stated). That's just bad logic and macho posturing.

Unfortuantly yeah, they think that are so big and brave taking on a smaller weaker person and it makes them feel good, even if you have done nothing wrong they want to look like the dogs b*****ks in front of their mates
why the question?

This is the stocking trade of the Chav! They beat people up for no reason. No reasonable person should, anybody that does, I hope they pick on the wrong person one day and get the kicking they deserve!

Yes, the insecure often prey on 'weaker' individuals, in order to gain a sense of empowerment. However this is often short lived, as they in-turn are picked on by those insecure people that consider them weak.
It's the way of things, I'm afraid.

That's the nature of a coward, to attack weaker people. It's also why the weak need to be skilled at self-defense or armed to protect themselves.
