If money's no object - stay at the Venetian or the new Wynn. If money's tight, the Imperial Palace always has deals

From places I've stayed over the years:
Bellagio - my personal favorite on the strip. Great rooms and service, though on the expensive side.
Mandalay Bay - service here could be a little better, but a pretty good value, and the pool area gets this one up a little higher (if you happen to be in the summer when this is a bigger consideration).
The Hotel (at Manadalay Bay) - as above, though a little bit nicer for a little bit more money.
The Mirage - I've never had a bad visit here, and this was the top of the line at the strip for quite awhile. I think it does show it's age a little, but still a top notch hotel, and now a little less expensive too!
Treasure Island - Sort of a stripped down version of The Mirage. A little less in the amenities department, but often available for very low prices.
Luxor - Much improved in recent years, but still at the lower end of places I'd stay. Stay in the towers if you stay here (the Pyramid rooms are older and the layout is not great for getting around). Biggest complaint here is that their non-smoking rooms were clearly smoking rooms at one time (judging by the odor).
Tropicana - Nothing terrible, nothing notable. Just a place to stay.
Rio - if you want to go just off the strip, this is a great option. Nice resort and great rooms.
The Venetian - Nice hotel, though I've often had the experience here where I feel like they sometimes didn't think out the entire resort with the same level of detail as their higher end competition (Bellagio and Wynn mainly). But still one of the best places on the strip.
If I were to rank them:
Bellagio, The Hotel, Mirage, Mandalay Bay, The Venetian, Rio, Treasure Island, Luxor, Tropicana

This month I saw an incredible deal on TravelWorm.com. The Aladdin is one of the nicest resorts on the Strip and right in the heart of everything. They usually run around $189 a night, but since they are converting to Planet Hollywood they have been under construction for a year and lost a lot of traffic. They finished most of the major work and reopened the brand new casino and rooms. TravelWorm.com has them at only $49 bucks a night deal to drive traffic back there. That is the hottest deal around!
I only use TravelWorm.com. They specialize in Vegas, so I don't get to take advantage of there best stuff. I still get great deals all over the country. They are one of the only companies that actually has contracts with the Hotels direct. That is why they can discount them so low. The only other company I know of that was direct contracts is Expedia and they don't discount them at all unless the hotel makes them.

All the hotels are nice. some nicer than others obviously. It really depends on your money. Although you can usually find deals for all of them. I've stayed at New York, New York, Bally's and Harrahs all on the strip. I've also stayed downtown and at some of the Hotels Offstrip too. If you don't plan on being in your room alot it really doesn't matter. Ballys was a quiet hotel - I did enjoy it. We usually stay at Harrahs now. Rooms are nice and we like that hotel. I wouldn't recommend Circus Circus or Imperial Palace although you can get rooms cheap. Pick the hotel you like the best that fits in your budget. Next trip you'll know which ones you like better and can go from there. Have Fun and good luck.

Now I am here to stick up for the Tropicana. It is located south strip. I think that is the biggest drawback. But the rooms, though they can be had for great rates, aren't all bad. It is by no means a dump. It is just a little dated. But I loved it there. It is classic Vegas and that is what I liked about it. I took and upgraded room and still got it for less than $50 a night. While the furnishings weren't brand new, it was clean and we had an awesome view from the tower of all of Vegas.

Well it really depends on your budget. and if the theme of the place really intriques you. Assuming your in that medium budget like most people I suggest these places:
The Aladdin/Planet Hollywood - Very central being right acrross bellagio, price is right, good buffet, might suffer because it could still be undergoing rennovation.
Treasure Island - Also very nice, I like the island theme, and it's right next to the mall, it's still center strip, but not as central as say Ballys.
Bally's - Also very central, and price is decent.
Other places like Luxor, Paris, MGM, offer similar pricing and are nice as well. but they are a little far off the strip for my taste (it's not too far though).
And if you can afford it..you really can't go wrong with:
Bellagio, Ceasars Palace, and The Venetian...they are all central, luxury casinos...great food, rooms, service, etc. or The Wynn..which is pretty much the top of them all (at the strip) although the Wynn really isn't that central, but if you can afford it..you probably can afford a Taxi/Limo.
and if you really want to SAVE money..Circus Circus all the way. still on the strip..the walk is pretty far, but it might be worth it to you considering you'll save a couple hundred bucks for the weekend. and how often are you at the hotel anyway? Stratosphere is a bit too far for my tastes..even with the monorail.

I've stayed a Paris a few times and always had a great experience. It's centrally located in the middle of the strip, connected to MGM, and is across the street from the Bellagio. It doesn't have the garden tub but it was a great value.

My wife and I like Bellagio and Mirage the best.
Wynn supposedly has really nice rooms. Flatscreen TV's, floor to ceiling windows. I have not stayed there, but have been there twice. It just looks like a knockoff of the Bellagio.
