I measured 33 at my 34 week appointment as well.
The nasty midwife I saw yesterday really beat up on me for being small and only gaining 22lbs so far in this pregnancy.
She then proceeded to say that its not normal for my stomach to still measure 33, ten days after my last appointment.
She also said the baby feels to be about 4 pounds. So she thinks my child might have a placenta growth retardation.
I have NEVER had any problems throughout this pregnancy and this woman who I saw yesterday was really mean and I dont get what her deal is.

Has anyone experienced similiar measurements and was the baby ok?

**By the way, babys movement and heart rate are great.

Sometimes those people are mean...I'd ask for someone else next time.

The healthy weight gain is 20-35 pounds depending on where you were before you got pregnant (more if you're skinny, less if you're fat).

Your uterus is like a balloon, and a lot of it depends on your baby's position. If she is butt up you'll measure bigger, if she she is more to the side, your uterus won't measure as high...it could change with a flip of the baby.

"Feeling" is an extremely inaccurate way to measure a baby's size....ultrasound is better and even then they can be off a pound either way.

Placenta growth retardation would show up through bad movements (baby isn't getting enough nutrition) and heartrate. You should ask for an ultrasound right away and a new midwife. I would tell the clinic you don't want her again.

Don't be passive....demand the ultrasound. They can check her weight and age, and how her organs are developing and the status of the placenta. What a stupid thing to throw out by "feeling."

Also, the placenta problem should have presented at your 20 week ultrasound. My girlfriend's baby did have that...she was born full-term and is now 12....other than being a bit mouthy she is just fine!

Gosh I hate it when the do stuff like that...... Maybe your carrying a smaller baby not everyone is going to grow at the same rate people are different. Could your dates be off a little? maybe that is the reason. I have noticed in both my pregnancies I gained more weight in the last month than any other.. Most of the time you are measured by different people maybe they have measured from two different starting points. Exactly a week before my Due Date I had this lady that had just given birth tell me that I was really small for being ready to have a baby she says it will be 5 lbs......my son was born 3 days later he was 7 lbs 13 oz goes to show they dont know everything

You still have a few weeks to go, dont worry what she says. Some midwives arent as great as they should be. Even though they think they know what the baby will weigh, no one does until it makes its appearance. As far as the weight gain most doctors dont want you to gave more than 25 pounds. She could have not measured right or the person before her could not have measured correctly on the size of your belly. As far as your child having placenta growth retardation, how could she possilby tell that information by a normal exam. She would need test and things. Dont worry I'm sure your babys is fine.

I too have been measured small. My doctor actually asked me to stop working. He said that the placenta wasn't functioning properly and therefore the baby was too small for its gestational age. I don't know what the outcome will be. I'm also 34 weeks pregnant. All I am really caring about is the baby's fetal movement. Some days it's overly active, and others he/she is calm. I have been going on weekly non-stress testing and ultrasounds. So far, I haven't been told anything serious. Hopefully everything will be alright.

I did and had many u/s with both my girls and when I was 37 weeks and induced I was measuring only 34 weeks. I had a tipped uterus and that why I measured small on the outside, but inside my girls were big and are very healthy. I had a midwife that was an *** to me and so I refused to see her anymore and went to an ob. I love my doctor now, she is great and pays attention to me when I talk to her. Good luck and I hope you find someone better and have a wonderful beautiful baby. I am sure that everything is fine, I would get a second opinion. Congrats on your baby.

Its all a load of poo and they are just guessing....
When pregnant with my 1st daughter, now 2yrs old, my tummy was measured at 32weeks and I was told she was 7 1/2lb, she was never 7 1/2lb, at birth she weighed 6lb 6oz. I am now 34weeks pregnant today, yesterday I saw a consultant as I have a cyst on the umbilical cord,(I have known this from 12weeks) I was told they are very concerned as looking at my scan measurements the baby is only 4 1/2lb. When I came home I referred to my literature and the baby should be this size, from now they say the baby puts on each week and should be 5lb 35weeks, 5 1/2lb 36weeks, 6lb 37weeks, 6 1/2lb 38weeks, 7lb 39week and 7 1/2lb at 40weeks. When my 1st daughter was born every other baby on the ward was 9lb+, this is what made them say my daughter was small. Average babies born these days are larger and 8lb upwards and anything lower they say is below average. Try not to worry, I'm not worrying. I have got another scan in 2weeks so they can check the sizes again but I am booked to have a home birth and if my baby was going to be dangerously small they wouldn't allow me to have a home birth.

I went to the doctor yesterday. I heard my babies heartbeat and the movement is wonderful also. I am measuring 22 weeks instead of being 26 weeks. My doctor said it was nothing to worry about. The baby might just be growing a little smaller. I wouldn't worry about it at all. 22lbs isn't bad either. Your midwife doesn't sound very nice at all. My doctor said everything is fine and that the baby may just be a little smaller. I wouldn't worry. Good luck.

First, Never see that woman again! Second go to a REAL doctor. Lastly, not every baby grow the same way and after only ten days there is nothing significantly different from the last visit. So, don't worry and go see a doctor with a real medical degree with better bed side manners. Good luck!

They aren't accurate measurements my doctor told me that you can measure 2 inches above or below and it is normal. My friend measured small her whole pregnancy and they thought the same thing about her baby and she stressed herself out way too much she ended up having an 8 lbs 3 ounce baby. Don't worry too much wait until your next appointment and see what happens

Yep, i'm carrying "moderately small" apparently, but they said the same thing about my first born and he was born at a healthy 8lbs 13oz. There's really no way to tell how much a baby weighs by feeling a woman's belly. Keep taking your prenatals, keep drinking plenty of water and eat well balanced meals throughout your day and your baby will be healthy too :)
