Yeah with all the services designed to help mentally ill and indigent people, there is no excuse for homelessness. Personally, I am so sick of the g-damned so called "homeless plight" plaguing our country.
And it is not the governments job to protect these near do wells, I'm a single mother with two kids and I still get myself to work everyday, these lazy good for nothing mongrels need to pull their sorry heads out of their asses and actually be contributing members of society WHY IN THE HELL IS IT OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GIVE THEM MONEY? ANSWER: IT'S NOT

Depends on the situation. There's many reasons people become homeless. If you asked a homeless person, I bet a majority of them would feel it wasn't brought on by themselves, but rather by things that happened in their lives.

I think some just don't want to deal with responsibilities that go along with having a home, job, family, etc. and want to live life on their terms.
Maybe others just gave up on themselves and stopped trying. Some, due to no fault of their own, have no choice.
Depression, mental illness, addictions, etc. contribute to homelessness.
It has to be one horrible way to survive-- because it doesn't look like 'living' to me.
It's so sad.....

Some, but a lot of homeless are in that situation because they have been abandoned by family while unable to care for themselves.
Are there because of mental breakdown.
Are there because of running away from abuse.

it would be ignorant to lump all into one category! BUT after working in a food bank and homeless shelters i wonder why these people dont take advantage of the opportunities the system has to offer-just keep living off the system.....
