Smoking is being prohibited everywhere. Okay good, but does it need to make the news every night. Everyone that smokes made that choice and it is up to them if they want to quit. As long as there are cigarettes, cigars and tabacco, there will be smoking. Should it make the news every night that someone has added more nicotine to the cigarettes making it harder for people to quit? Right now we have more pressing matters to take care of. Right?

Well I think they need to stop putting it on the news everyday, there are way more serious issues that should be top of news stories. If a person chooses to smoke that's their personal preference, not the governments. I am not a smoker but I do believe we live in a country called the land of the free...so why taunt smokers, if they want to smoke themselves to death so be it. You don't see half as many new stories about alcohol which is also not good for you...Anyway yeah the smoking stories are getting old...time to focus on MAJOR ISSUES IN OUR COUNTRY

I agree there are more pressing issues - I wish smoking was made illegal. Which is ironic because I am a closet smoker. I go home every night, pace the floors until I have a cigarette or 12. It has been a miserable struggle my entire life and whenever I try to quit I fail miserably.

Growing up my parents smoked all day, in the house, cars, parks, etc. I became so accustomed to it I fed my own craving for it as an adult that this is something perfectly natural in my life -very common place.

The day I found out I was pregnant I put them down, no withdrawls, no problems, no cravings b/c I knew it would affect someone else's life. Likewise, you walk into a restaraunt and I think it's disgusting to smoke around food & drinks. I won't eat there.

If it was made illegal I bet I would (with many others) change my tune. I have never smoked pot or had an illegal drug in my life. I guess b/c drugs were illegal I always figured there were really good reasons not to try them.

Is this the most pressing issue on the table. No. Not when there are missing children, starving families, wars being fought and the Superbowl around the corner (ha!) - Those are the real things we need to press together as a nation to take care of.

In case you haven't noticed, big brother is slowly removing our ability to make choices on our own. As soon as a politician or his wife,or rich friend decides they don't like something, there is a law against it. Walking into a restaurant and being over powered by the smell of some womans overly used perfume is just as bad as cigarette smoke. If someone dislikes the smell of cigarette smoke ,don't go where it is.What will they tax when everyone has to quit smoking? After all, the smokers do pay more taxes.

It should I say I have smoked more than 35 years and now on oxygen and finding it extremely hard to quit. If it helps any one to not start smoking then it has been for a good purpose. The more it is out there maybe it will help someone not to smoke and that would be well worth it. If you do not want to hear it no one is breaking your arm to listen to it change the channel that is what the remote is for.

The reason smoking is back in the news is because it seems the level of nicotine in cigarettes is increasing and researchers say this is being done on purpose by the cigarette companies.

MDK, with all due respect, YOUR smoking BECOMES my business when you're in my space, putting MY lungs at risk and when my tax dollars pay for your smoking-related medical bills if you can't afford to pay them for yourself.

If you don't like what's on the news, turn off the TV. It's a simple solution, really. As for smoking, I'd agree with you that it's a person's choice. However, as an ex-smoker, I don't care to smell second hand smoke.

Not only do we have more pressing matters, but highlighting it in the news gives the concept of smoking too much power to young people who may be watching.

Based on the numbers of people killed by tobacco use each year, I would have to say no, we do not have more pressing matters, just other pressing matters.

Not a whole lot more important stories out there than to warn our kids that smoking will hook them and maybe kill them.
