Also if i do get a .com will the old website builders name be at the top? for example if my old address was www.yourname.moonfruit.com will that be shown in the address bar OR will it be www.yourname.com on the persons address bar? I'm not sure what you mean about domains. Assuming that you are not running a server, you must use someone else's domian to establish you site as viable. If you don't pay, then it won't go up.

As far as the URL, it has two parts: the URL itself and the the IP adress it represents. The URL is the text-based name, while the IP ad. is the actual adress of the site. The IP must remain constant (static) to insure that people looking for the site can find it. As far as the URL, you can change it, add to it (aliases), etc.

You've got two of the three elements you need. A website builder lets you build a website, a domain company sells you an address, and what's left is the website hosting company that will host the website. Note that the least tangible thing is the address. It's basically just reserving the name for your use. It doesn't let you do anything with it.

Your website builder may be willing to host your website for an additional fee. You could also check with your ISP or you could find an independent hoster.

Basically, the host company will assign your website a unique IP address which will be distributed to domain name servers (DNS). When a person types in www.yourname.com the DNS will translate that to 123.12.123.12 and direct it to your site on the host company's server.

The user should only see www.yourname.com on the address bar. The IP address is transparent to the end user.

Your domain will be www.yourname.com end of. That is the service you are paying for. If you buy hosting from the company, then it is easier. However you can set up that once www.yourname.com is entered into the URL bar, it will direct to www.yourdomain.freewebsiteprovidor.com and still ahve www.yourname.com.

This can easily be set up in the domain setting once purchased. Hope this helps :)
