No. Not everybody in the US lives where it's so cold and snowy that the schools get closed. In the summer, the schools can get very hot. Then, the schools would have to pay for heating (for the time right before they ended school and when they started it) and then for air-conditioning when it got to be over one hundred degrees in the summer. Ever think about how many things that would mess up? No summer camps, no swim teams, no playing outside in the nice weather, etc.
The school schedule works fine as it is.

I think it would be a great idea! People with disabilities struggle more during the winter season in snow and ice climates, especially children. They miss school a lot because of weather and illness because their immune systems don't work as well. It would give them a more fair and equal chance with other students. Tourism would also increase in the winter in areas where people only came in the summer helping people to keep there jobs all year long instead of seasonally. Indoor water parks, local ski slopes ,museums, discovery center are just a small amount of things to do in the winter.....change is always good.

Sounds like a great way to spend your time off of school. Inside, cold and sick, or by yourself because all of your friends are sick. Summer is about getting out enjoying activities, living it up while you're still in school (cause that stops when you become an adult) and being with friends. Summer break was originally designed to help farm families. Although harvest season is normally associated between Sept-Nov, the majority of crops are harvested between Jun-Sep. Since children are no longer needed to work on the farm, a lot of schools have chosen to go to year around, i.e. 3 months of school and 1 month off (different schools, different cycles), provided you have met all academic requirements. I think it would be a pity to force our children to take a break during a time they can't or shouldn't be outside. Our children are fat enough, let them play to work off some calories.

Who wants to spend six weeks locked up indoors because it's too cold/dreary/dark to go outside? Kids love the summer holidays because it's sunny and daylight until late meaning they can properly enjoy the time they have off.
Perhaps a better idea would be to give kids five weeks off in summer and give that extra week off in winter so children have longer before Christmas to prepare for the festivities.

Never thought about that but it is a very good idea. You should go to the board of ed with that idea. Plus it would be an even bigger punishment for those that have take winter school. Trecking through the snow while everyone else is on vaca.

I definatly dont think so, because think about it. Kids love days off. They dont like school. As I dont either. And the reason that I think it should be int eh summer is because look at it, inthe winter kids get all these free days off. If it was in the winter, then they would barely ever get off school.

i think its a terrible idea.. there are to many holidays in the winter months plus the bad weather, school is cancelled and yeah ppl get sick, who wants to be sick on there vacation break... not me thats for sure... things are perfect as they are.
also alot of college students make there money during the summer months doing work outdoors like landscaping and construction...it is hard to make that money to pay for there education when they are out in the winter months and there is a less demand for employment for them. you cant just think about small things like being sick or bad weather... there is a bigger picture to look at that doesnt revolve around just you.
