I'm going on honeymoon to a few of the Greek islands this summer and I'm looking for a really cool romantic hotel to stay in for a night or two in Athens when we first arrive. Does anyone have any recommendations? I have seen one called the Life Gallery that looks pretty cool

There are several really nice hotels in Athens that I would consider very nice for a few days of a honeymoon, such as The Metropolitan, The Divani Caravelle, Grecotel, The Astir Palace, The Intercontinental, The St. George in Lykabettos, but the one I woulds suggest very strongly is the Grand Bretagne. The Grand Bretagne is considered by many to be the first hotel in all of Athens because of the beauty, the service, the history and the location at Syntagma Square. The typical room at the GB will run you around 300-350 euro per night unless you opt for something more lavish.
Since you are going to be on the Islands the rest of your stay, I wouldn't so strongly recommend anything on the coastline near Athens since it will not compare to the view and experience you will have on the islands. There are many smaller boutique style hotels in the heart of Athens I could recommend as well if you are looking for something less classic and more chic. email if you would like.

For such a special occasion a special hotel is required. The very best that Athens has to offer if the Grande Bretagne. You can't beat it for looks, service, location (in Consitution Square) and decadence....
Check out their website - it really is a beautiful and romantic place to stay. Sunrises and sunsets over the stunning views of the Acropolis.... heavenly.

(from the website)
The Grande Bretagne represents the essence of hospitality in Greece for more than 130 years. Since it reopening in 2003, the promises of defined excellence have even been exceeded....

Hi,
The Shereton is pretty good, it has all the usual swimming & night-cub stuff, although I wonder if there is a cool hotel in Athens, as the air-con packs up all the time.
Best as soon as possible to hit the islands. Many to choose from, as opposed to deisel fuel exhaust-fume ridden Athens.
No wonder the Acropolis is in decay.
If you get to Hydra, go to Dimitry's on the harbour front, and say Bob the Boat sent you. I bet you get a free beer & a goodly room for a night or two.
He owes me one, and Athens owes me a cough & a splutter.
All the best, and congratulations,
Bob.

as an athenian, i believe that the best hotel in my city is by far the 'Grande Bretagne ' hotel. when you entry the building you have the impression that its a castle in the todays athens.the most political leaders of the whole world prefer to stay there.you can book a lower room that will cost you about 2500 $ by night or the king's suites that may cost you about 30000 per night!alternative choices are tha athenian hilton king george II and intercontinental hotel

I've also stayed at the Hotel Parthenon (see above post). While it does have good food, service, and location, I wouldn't consider it a "romantic" location... I've also stayed at the hotel Alexandros, but that wasn't particularly special, either... I'd look at some of the other ideas given.

I've stayed at the Hotel Parthenon and had wonderful service there and their food is fabulous (as is everywhere in Greece!). Here are some links for info on the hotel. Good luck and congrats!
