What would you say to limiting the time of a judge in the Supreme Court? It's a bill that my classmates in my government class are proposing. Since the judges are appointed by the president and hold their job until their death or their decision to retirement, we want them to serve for a certain amount of time. This is only for a mock congress we are doing and we will later debate it in another mock congress in D.C. if it gets passed. Questions are welcomed because they can help us prepare for the debate and the questions we may have to answer. Thank you.

I'm sorry not judges, Justices. Most of you probably noticed it already. Opening speeches are this afternoon and i want to have questions that i think people may ask so i can be ready to fire back. We really want to pass this bill when we get to D.C. for our mock congress. Thank you for your help.

Justices, not judges.

But for what amount of time? If they died before their term expired, how would they be replaced? (With another Presidential nomination, I would guess) But would that new person serve a full term, or just the remainder of the term of the dead Justice?

Could they be re-nominated? How many times?

But it's really a bad idea. It would require a lot of Constitutional changes. Hope I could be of some service. Thanks.

Good idea with which I agree. ONly 2 problems - 1. I don't have a clue as to what term limits would be best, and 2. The House & Senate can't even agree on building a fence, so this debate would tie them up for a hundred years.

My most worthy suggestion is that you learn the PROPER names for the bodies of government to which you might need to refer to during the debates.

1. Supreme Court of the United States
2. Chief Justice of the United States
3. Associate Justice(s) of the Supreme Court
4. House of Representatives
5. Senate of the United States

bad idea -- then they have to play to the politics of the time.
