Find the vertices of the ellipse x^2/4+y^2/25=1?
This ellipse has its centre at the origin and major axis along the Y-axis.
x^2/b^2+y^2/a^2=1 represents an ellipse with semi major axis a and semi minor axis b and its vertices (the end points of its major axis) are (0,a) and (0,-a) and others (the end points of its minor axis) are (b,0) and
(-b,0) , comparing the two and get:
the semi major axis a=5, and
the semi minor axis b =2.
So the vertices of the ellipse x^2/4+y^2/25=1 are
(0,5); (0,-5); (2,0) and (-2,0)
