I have lot of blogs whether arranged marriage is better or love marriage. But the answers are usually shallow talking of the so-called vedas as if anybody reads it today. Else it is pointed towards direction of culture, values and family. My question is: Is arrange marriage though good responsible for 65% illiteracy rate among (there is no need to educate a girl child if you have to marry her), Dowry, abuse and infanticide - at the end putting women in a weak position. Else arranged marriage has nothing to do with it ..

I am married 22 yrs. 4 children, 3 past their teens. My marriage was neither an arranged marriage, nor a love marriage. But now I know that there is no one in this world that I love more than my wife. Why is this? It is not a question of literacy ; it is not a question of education; it is not a question of are we made for each other; it is not a question of whether my religion confirms to her or not; it is not a question of intelligence; it is not a question of her parents richness; it is not a question of my parents being richer or not; it is not a question of whether she likes dogs; it is not a question of whether I drink; it is not a question whether I smoke. The only question is whether I fulfill the vows I made in church before the authority of GOD that : "I take you to be my wife till death do us both part." and that as long as I live this vow will remain with me. So as answers your question marriage is neither the weak position; nor the position of strength of either. It is oneness.

I guess this could be argued either way... but what is true is that marriage can not be judged by what is arranged and what isnt as ALL marriages are different.
I have witnessed a very unhappy arranged marriage with both parents taking no pride or genuine love in their marriage but undoubtably love their children. Also, an arranged marriage of 2 people who have growen to love each other soooo much it is truelly wonderful to see.
I and my husband are not arranged in fact he is Indian and Im not and believe me, we have had our share of trials! we married in India where we lived for a long time and we have been blissfully married now for 4 years. Having seen first hand what arranged marriage is like for girls in India, I would like to see woman have more of a say in who they will marry and be treated less like a belonging and more like a human being.

social ills exist because people want power over the weaker sections of the society and women become an easy target!... and btw getting married has got nothing to do w/wheather or not there is education or not.. unless you decide your kids don't need to go to college becoz they are too smart for that!... anyway, love or arrange.. if you can tolerate the person for the rest of your life then either way, consider yourself "Married"
