Yes I do believe that is the reason. There is a word in the English language that it seems most men dont know. The word is NO. You can use it you know.

Most mom's are single because they unfortunately picked the wrong guy to be a spouse / bf ect. whatever the case may be.. Useless and Selfish is only a small part of the over all picture.. its men that arent real men, ones that arent accountable for their actions, have little respect for commitments , vows etc.. and men that are still little boys trapped in mens bodies that have zero morals or values..
Now as far as single mothers hitting on a married men, well thats not right no single person should try to disrupt, tempt, or try to suade a married person..
But i can see the attraction.. theres nothing sexier about a man then one that is a good husband and definately a good father.. and for a single woman who wants to find a father figure for their children, when they see one that is a good father, they want that so badly for their own children that sometimes they dont think straight.. so try not to be so harsh on the single mom's they just envy what your wife already has, just keep setting them straight..is all u can do..

i have to say that this situation is not a nice one. Do you wear a wedding band? Do they know your wife? Or are these just women out on the town? And speaking from my sister and friends experiences the man was selfish and/or useless, yes. My sister's fiance' got her pregnant, then left her because he didn't want to be a dad, so he moved on to his next victim, got that girl pregnant, and he now has two sons that are 5 months apart. My nephew has turned out great, but the dad has never kept a promise to come and visit, no birthday cards, or christmas presents, no child support, and my nephew's half brother is so messed up that he doesn't talk, and he is thirteen. I do not excuse these women from being wrong to hit on you, but maybe you have falsely or unintentionally given them the idea that you are in an unhappy marriage.

I feel so sorry for wife and kids. Does your wife know that you sit on the computer all day bashing woman and not doing the dishes and sweeping the floor like she told you to do? And does your kids realize how worthless you are and that you are the one stealing they allowance so your wife will think that you worked all day? The single moms that's hitting on you are probably literally hitting you and you are ashamed to say so. Or its the other way around you are trying to pick up single moms and they know you are worthless so they tell shut you down before you get the chance. Poor Poor Pitiful You!!!

No, not generally. Most single mothers are that way because they divorced a husband who (for whatever reason) helped create an unhealthy environment. Very few are guiltless when it comes to divorce.
However, you are right. It is wrong for any woman to hit on a married man. Regardless if she is a mother or not.

I am a single mom and I chose to be separated because I don't want to spend the rest of my days being abused emotionally. i take responsiblity in all my decisions and irregardless of my husband being an irresponsible and selfish dad. It is still my choice and I am not pointing fingers on him because for me to live alone and being single is the best choice I ever did for myself.
