I told another Yahoo! Answers user that I usually 'delete unread' any messages they send me because they have been harassing me, but yet they still send me mail, which I DO NOT READ, I just DELETE. Are they just wasting their time (I think they are) or am I mistaken about what that term means?? Please answer....

You are technically right that you deleted it without reading it. I have usually heard this term used when someone has something important to convey, business or otherwise, and when they check the status of the mail they sent the computer states "deleted unread."

The person you sent it to never opens the message.

I don't know what you think it means, but to "Delete Unread" means that the client you are using will trash any messages that you haven't looked at yet. This has no effect on anything outside of the folder you're currently in on your mail client.

The spammer's mail had made it to your inbox, they already got what they wanted.

'Delete Unread' means that the messages sent to you will delete even though you haven't read them yet.
