In my opinion there are two benefits.Cigarettes give you pleasure, and they curb your appetite. However those benefits are not enough to remain a smoker.I would try to quit, good luck.

Apparently studies and tests have shown that there are benefits to smoking.I read about it a few years ago and it claimed smoking helped people with Altzhiemers and other conditions.HOWEVER the risks far outweigh the benefits and giving up is singularly the best thing a smoker can do.I am 12 days ciggie free and chuffed.(formerly a 30 aday user with a pathetic track record for giving up)

sounds like you are trying to convince yourself that you feel happier with cigerettes. You need will power to quit, not keep doubting yourself. there are no benefits, its bad for you and anyone in the same room as you. cigerettes stink = so do you. Get rid of them. I cant wait til they ban smoking more and more, was my friends birthday last night, we all met in a bar before before going for a meal and i hated the place because other peoples smoke was filling the room. I think the worst thing about the bad habit of smoking is that you aint only damaging your own health but also other peoples. if you really think you need a bad habit then change to a different bad habit that only you will suffer the consequences of. Quitting is hard and horrible for most people, it takes time and effort and you will feel crap in the process of it. Prove you are a strong enough person and quit, properly, for good : )

You have to get past the FIRST few weeks , once you have cracked that, keep it up maybe after some months the idea that they were helping will go away, and do not even have a quick one with friends, the nicotine is a drug and it is very easy to fall back into the trap, I know because it took me 30 years to get it right and too late I now suffer from Emphysema and Chronic bronchitis problems, I can assure you it is not fun when you can not get up a flight of stairs at 56 yrs old, The initial benefits are quickly out weighed by the draw backs.

I quit for new years and I found that I would rather be a "disgusting smoker" than the evil suddenly friendless hag I was after about 3 days. So I started smoking and I'm happy and I have friends again and they don't complain about my smoking any more because now they know the alternative.
PS- to the guy above me- if you don't like smoke why do you choose to go to a bar that allows smoking?? Jeeze dude you're a grown up can't you make your own decisions?? And don't you think the grown up bar owners should be able to make their own decisions???

That's like asking what are the benefits to getting a tattoo, or piercing. There are no benefits. There are a log of negatives.
If you are able to quit, you should. Not only for the sake of your health (the most important reason), but also you will save quite a bit of money. You will not be ostracized when you get the urge to light up.
By all means, quit.

smoking relaxes us especially in times of stress , it was the world wars that caused smoking to become common place and all were under a great deal of stress at that time . why not if you genuinely find it easy to give up , just consider yourself a non smoker and enjoy one occasionally like a glass of wine , i very much doubt one cig a day has a more harming effect on the body than standing near a road breathing exhaust fumes for a minute each day , sure it's bad for you so's orange juice if you take to much , not being dependant on it is the trick and I'd say you've achieved that already .

there are absolutely no benefits to smoking what so ever. you stink, pay through the nose for something that is systematically killing you. you may as well take heroin. infact nicotine is worse..... if you injected nicotine into your blood stream it would kill you instantly//
by the way i am a smoker, reading allen carrs how to stop smoking at the moment, and believe me its working cant wait to be free!! QUIT NOW!!
