I'm a kind person until I get behind the wheel of a car, then I'm a raving cursing horn blowing maniac.

What I really hated was that guy that drives up the emergency lane then tries to cut in at the last second!! The only thing I hate more is when I'M that guy and nobody will let me in!!!
Seriously, my experience says it has a lot to do with the car i'm driving. When I had a Camaro Z28... EVERYBODY pissed me off and I found myself going tripple digits on the FWY... what an ****** I was. My next car was a Tercell.... and suddenly, the road wasn't such a horrible place. My under-powered Toyota truck was no exception, although I did find people getting increasingly pissed at me when I didn't hit the onramp at 100+ MPH.
My tips for sane driving:
- Remember to be courtous on the road, let someone in that needs to get in, and hopefully they will pass on that good gesture and spread it around... and if they don't, then they are ******* and don't deserve to be enlightened.
- Leave 5-10 minutes early whenever possible
- Take the back roads and enjoy any possible glimpse of scenery, maybe the clouds or a sunset if there's not much else. OK, it may take longer, but if you leave a little early, you will have a much more enjoyable trip.
- Watch the movie 'Cars', and take some of those things to heart. The laid back, Route 66 mentality is what kept our parents and grand parents sane back when cars always broke down, had horrible brakes and more people didn't know how to drive well.

Good luck and be safe out there... and don't mount that cannon on the front of your car yet.... they will eventually learn how to drive.

PS- Disney made a Goofy cartoon about this very same phenominom... it was Mr. Walker/ Mr. Wheeler... good for a chuckle i'm sure.

Not me, I never take things personally; and occasionally when a road rage person does goes "honkers" at my expense, I assume that he had been child molested by his priest or that his father abused him or her.

Road rage people seem insecure. They seem to have this feeling that the entire world is blaming them for something that they are not being blamed for in the first place.

For example, once I was driving in very heavy traffic and, as I was reaching to wipe my eye, my elbow inadvertantly beeped the horn and my car honked accidentally at the car in front of me, some big, Ford Ranger. Anyhoo, this car, suddenly went ballistic. He was peeling, accellerating, braking quickly, giving me the finger. I did what I naturally learned in Driver's Training which is do not maintain eye contact with the driver and slow down and avoid confrontation. But this man was determined to give me his piece of mind. He finally pulled over and was tailgating me and honking his horn violently.

I wasn't offended by him, but I was amazed at how barbaric his behavior was. In his stupidity, he had no intelligence to realize that I had no reason to honk at him, and if I had no reason to honk at him, could there in fact, be a reasonable doubt that I had honked at him in the first place?? No, in this driver's mind, I was guilty without cause and he needed to express this. Because I was completely ignoring him, he was placing me and all the driver's around at risk. Someone could have easily been killed merely because of an accidental horn being honked.

You remind me of my mother and grandma, they both have a serious case of road rage when they get behind the wheel. I can't say that i have completely cured them, but my method work i a lot better than i thought....

I shower them with compliments!! I say things like "Now mom you know everyone isn't as good at driving as you" or i say "Grandma, you know you've had a lot more experience at drive then these other people..." or my favorite "It's not their fault that their not perfect, so stop yelling."

Keep telling your self these things, and not only will you feel good about yourself, your road rage will cease to exist!!!

Hope this helps!!!

Hmm, no longer positive I actually have any major highway rage topics. yet, this stressful man or woman at artwork saved taking on 3 areas on purpose as if to guard her motor vehicle. So faster or later I left a word on her windshield that stated "sorry I scratched your motor vehicle, yet i wager if it were between the yellow strains like a classic man or woman, this does no longer have got here about. Oops!" i did not quite even scratch her motor vehicle, yet I watched her get to her motor vehicle, take the word off, study it, then walk all round her motor vehicle about 5 cases attempting to confirm the position it became scratched. the subsequent day she parked generally - between the yellow strains even!

Me too, I thought I was the only one to admit it. Slow a.s.s. drivers in the fast lane, old people driving titanic boat cars and just plain idiots! GRRRR Good thing I don't pack heat I'd be locked up for sure by now.

I curse a lot but only honk my horn to avoid an accident, or if someone cuts me off.

for me its passive aggression

if you were behind me beeping like that, I would put the blinkers on and drive like 3MPH, and watch you fume, maybe wouldn't even let you pass me

its fun and is an effective way to deal with road rage

I believe it gets us all in the end. The idiocy happening on the road these day leaves no way to avoid it.

I am not. I just sit and listen to tunes and try to be patient. Getting all upset doesn't make it any faster to get out of traffic and it really ruins the day.
