Australia is always discribed as being on the other side of the world, but what IS exactly on the other side from say London. If you could drill straight through the middle, where would you come out?

In reality if u did that you would be fried to nothing before you got to the centre, but I know what u mean, ur saying if it could be done, well what I suggest is follow the grid reference line of london down to the point where u would come out, u can count the reference line down and accross to London from North pole, and hopefully if ref marks are equal then do the same from South pole and hopefully u will get ur answer.

You will oscillate to and fro for eternity. If there's a hole through the centre of the earth and open at the other end of the diameter and u jump in, first u'll be attracted by acceleration of g and this will keep changing as the acceleration due to gravity inside the earth is = Gmr/R^3 where r is distance from centre of earth and R is the radius of earth and G is the gravitational constant. So the acceleration of your body would keep decreasing as you near the centre of the earth but when u reach the centre u would have acquired quite a velocity as only the rate by which velocity increases has been reducing and not the velocity itself! so u move beyond the centre and towards the opposite end of the earth but as ur moving away the centre of the earth again starts attracting u and finally when u reach a certain distance u stop and start falling back to the centre again, repeat the whole process go to the other side and basically start exhibiting OSCILLATORY MOTION till eternity ( if all other factors except those directly concerned with gravity are neglected of course).

From Britain, you'd end up approximately one thousand miles south of New Zealand, depending where you started from. For reference, New Zealand is the direct antipode of Spain.

get a inflatable globe, blow it up (obviously), then get london to the top (north pole style. lol) then run a knitting needle straight thru it (top to bottom) will give you exact location off our opposite.

hope this helps
